NYFW Top Makeup Trends Spring/Summer 2014: Best Red Lipsticks, Lavender Lips, Colored Eyeliner, Flushed Cheeks

The makeup looks just keep coming! Shimmery, glitter-packed eyes were all the rage at the Jenny Packham show. Orange, lavender and pink lips packed a punch at Prabal Gurung.

Keep it clean! Focus on skin with a clean, matte finish. Teal and blue eyeliner were a hit at the Marc Jacobs show. Read on to see other looks from your favorite designers such as Altuzarra, Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen and more!

Laura Mercier – Jenny Packham

Who: Talia Shobrook created the look for the Jenny Packham SS14 show using Laura Mercier products.

Look: The makeup represents a “seventies take on austere Edwardian attire.” The makeup look for the show further highlights the contrast between the eras, combining a “flush of innocence with a hint of naughtiness.”

Products Used: For flawless skin and a youthful glow, skin was prepped with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer and Creme Cheek Colour in Sunrise to the cheekbones.

Rosy, feminine lips were achieved with Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Spiced Rose and Pink Blush.

For eyes, get subtle sparkle with Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sterling as a base, while the glitter was especially made for the show. One swipe of Full Blown Volume Lash Building Mascara kept lashes subtle.

MAC – Altuzarra

Who: Tom Pecheux for MAC Cosmetics created the look for the Altuzarra SS14 show.

Look: “The red lip gets an edgy feel against a white eye… making it more cool.” – Tom Pecheux

Products Used: Skin was evened using the Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation along with Prep+Prime Transparent Finishing Powder Loose to set and provide a matte finish.

White eyes were achieved with MAC Pro Pure White Paint Stick pressed onto eyelids with Eyeshadow in Gesso placed on top. Get a cherry lips by outlining the edges with Lip Pencil in Cherry, blending it all in with MAC Pro Red Lipmix and, to deepen the lip look, pressing MAC Pro Basic Red Pigment.

MAC – Vivienne Tam

Who: MAC Pro Makeup Artist Maud Laceppe created the look for the SS14 Vivienne Tam show.

Vivienne Tam makeup application
Look: Perfection. Skin was corrected and blended, rest of features were left extremely glossy with an earthy tone.

Steps: Moisturize skin well by massaging cream into face. Make sure to condition lips as well.
Pro Longwear Concealer created an even, flawless complexion that was pressed into the skin and neck with fingers.

Powder Blush in Taupe contoured hollows of cheeks, then Soft And Gentle was blended well into cheeks and buffed as a highlight, on center of lip, dabbed into the center of eyelid, collar bone and breast plate.

Brows were naturally groomed with Eyeshadow in Groundwork, also dusted over lids and buffed into the eye socket, lightly swept up to the brow. Color was also pushed onto the bottom lashes, then swept out (blown out), continuing to build into the crease.

Eyeshadow in Rule was swept into crease over darker shade; Groundwork swept under lashes. Invisible Setting Powder was dusted over jawbone. No mascara was applied.

Look: Like a breath of fresh air, we went for light luminous eyes, peachy cheeks and natural, lit-from-within skin to complement the classic stripes and soft, feminine dresses in Malandrino’s spring collection.

Who: Diane Kendal for Lancôme & Manicurist Ana Maria created this look for the Jason Wu SS14 show.

Look: Glittering gold and bronze eyes. Add feminine glamour to natural, glowing skin and a bare lip.

MAC – Monique Lhuillier

Who: Val Garland for MAC Cosmetics created the look for the Monique Lhuillier SS14 show.

Look: “Sheer textures with veils of color.” – Val Garland

Products Used: Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation evened skin and made it look radiant with the addition of MAC Pro Shine Mixing Medium pressed on the skin to highlight.

Eyes were left natural with Pro Correct and Conceal Palette blended on the eyelids, while brows were groomed with Clear Brow Set. Lips were a fiery red with Cherry Glaze Huggable LipColour (Available SS14) blended on the entire lip and MAC Pro Basic Red Pigment applied tot he center to intensify and deepen the finish.

Who: Charlotte Tilbury for MAC Cosmetics created the look for the Prabal Gurung SS14 show.

Look: “A twist on a modern mannequin look, with a classic 1950’s lip shape in bold color.” – Charlotte Tilbury

Products Used: Skin was hydrated using Complete Comfort Creme and skin was toned and kept matte using Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation and Prep+Prime Colour Correcting Loose (Available SS14).

A chocolate ‘50s feline flick to the eye was achieved using Eye Pencil in Coffee. Lips were either orange, lavender or pink. To get the orange lip, use What A Blast! Pro Longwear Lip Pencil and MAC Pro Orange LipMix on top.

Who: James Kaliardos for MAC Cosmetics created the look for the Diane Von Furstenberg SS14 show.

Look: “It’s all about the little details… The girl is fresh from vacation in the Hamptons, so she doesn’t need makeup.” – James Kaliardos

Products Used: Skin was hydrated before applying Prep+Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 to even skintone and N7 Face & Body Foundation blended through the hairline and over cheekbones to add warmth and lightly contour.

Eyelids used Cultivating Chic and Now In Season Eyeshdadows (Available SS14) to the upper and lower lash lines. The upper lash bed was defined with MAC Pro Black Black Chromaline with Haute & Naughty Too Black Mascara. Lips were shiny and sheer with Lovingly Yours Mineralize Lipglass (Available SS14) applied over some Prep+Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35.

MAC – Kenneth Cole

Who: Lead MAC Pro Team Makeup Artist Romy Soleimani created the look for the SS14 Kenneth Cole show.

Look: “Harem grunge from a Beatle’s point of view,” said Romy Soleimani.

Steps: For skin, moisturize and conceal as needed for a natural/satin finish.

For smoky eyes, use Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner in Blackline and smudge into lower lash line. For a pop of color, Green Space and Teal Pro Pigments were softly washed over liner to brighten. Blue Brown Pigment was also softly smudged over outer corner of liner to deepen.

Pigment in Gold was pressed into inner corners of the eyes with finger. Haute & Naughty Mascara was used on top lashes ONLY.

Shine Mixing Medium was pressed onto lids for a wet look. Brows were softly enhanced for a natural look. Copper Beach Sculpting Cream was pressed into cheeks for natural yet softly sculpted cheekbones. Shine Mixing Medium was then pressed onto cheekbones for a natural, glowing highlight.

MAC – Edun

Who: Aaron De May of MAC Cosmetics created the look for the Edun SS14 show.

Look: “No makeup look… More about perfected skin. Flawless. Not too shiny, perfectly matte but natural.” – Aaron De May

Products Used: Mineralize Charged Water Cleanser cleansed and nourished skin, while any imperfections were addressed with concealer; skin was left matte with some Prep+Prime Transparent Finishing Powder Loose.

For the eyes, Clear Lipglass was spread across the entire eyelid with fingertips without extending past the outer corners. Lips were left bare.

MAC – Zac Posen

Who: Kabuki for MAC Cosmetics created the look for the Zac Posen SS14 show.

Look: “My goal was to have one graphic element, while the rest of the face is soft and romantic.” – Kabuki

Products Used: MatchMaster SPF 15 Foundation was blended into skin, leaving a matte finish. Hush Cream Colour Base was blended on the high points of the face for a pearly, flesh-toned highlight. Bare Canvas and Sublime Nature Paints were mixed together and blended over eyes as a skintone base.

Feline Eye Kohl and Blacktrack Fluidline lined the eyes for a dramatic finish with 43 Lashes and Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara. Lips were left nude and applied with a fluffy brush, use Keep It Loose! Casual Color (Available SS14).

Marc Jacobs – NARS

Who: François Nars, Founder & Creative Director of NARS created two bold beauty looks for the Marc Jacobs SS14 runway show.

Look: “This is a summer look that’s all about the eye. Most of the girls have a teal blue line, but some have a royal blue, extending past both the inner and outer corner. The skin is very transparent for a flushed look.”

Products Used: Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, Radiant Creamy Concealer, Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder and Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder perfected complexions for a transparent look.

Who: Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman created the SS14 look backstage at Marchesa.

Look: Marchesa pairs naturally luminous skin with a subtle brown eye and deep purple on the lips for the Marchesa SS14 collection.

“Overall the inspiration is gothic romance. It adds toughness to the feminine and enchanting look of the dresses and it plays in well with the body art,” says Westman.

Products Used: A clean base was created with Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream Skin Perfector (varies based on model skintone), Revlon Nearly Naked Powder, Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare Light, (New for January 2014) and PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed.

Eyes captured a smoky brown using Revlon ColorStay Shadowlinks in Charcoal (New for January 2014), Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Brown and Black and Revlon Lash Potion Mascara in Blackest Black.

Purple lips were achieved using a mixture of Revlon ColorStay Lip Liner in Plum, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Va Va Violet, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Adore and Revlon PhotoReady Eye Palette in Muse from The Evening Opulence Collection by Gucci Westman (purple shade only; patted lightly onto lips to create matte finish).

Who: Stephanie Albarracin, Key Makeup Artist for Kristi Vosbeck SS14 show, created the look.

Look: With respect to the color scheme of the collection, models were kept looking fresh and radiant with dewy skin; champagne and bronze-colored eyes, bronzed cheeks and a light pink lip stain.

Products Used: Skin was prepped with Erno Laszlo Transphuse Day Serum to reduce redness and brighten up the skin; Transphuse Line Refining Cream instantly strengthened the dermis increasing elasticity giving a smoother application followed by the Absolute Finish Foundation Mousse — instantly giving the skin a more glowing finish.

Makeup Forever Aqua Cream in Shade 12 and 13 were applied to the eyes. For the pop of NARS Blush in Exhibit A was applied slightly on the outer crease. To emphasize the eyes, dramatic eyelashes were applied, coated with Dior Iconic OverCurl in Black for a doll-eyed look.

NARS Bronzer in Laguna contoured the face. For the cheeks, Laura Geller Blush-N-Brighten in Pink Grapefruit and Golden Apricot was mixed together to create a natural pinch of color with an instant highlighted effect.

To finish the look, a lip stain (in a pink tone) from Kryolan Lip Shine Circle was topped off with NARS Multiple Stick in Copacabana right on the lip.

MAC – FALLON

Who: MAC Cosmetics created the look for the first-ever fashion show for the jewelry line FALLON by designer Dana Lorenz.

Look: MAC makeup artist was inspired by a gang of street savvy girls with some elegance. Makeup is a play of textures: dewy skin, glossy eyes for shine. The natural, innocent red pigment found in lips was taken away by applying powder.

Look: Prep meets pretty and a very neutral palette with pops of pastels. An almost peachy mod pastel lip with a flush at the cheeks. When you do pale colors on lips and cheeks, you have to have perfect, beautiful skin.

Products Used: The complexion was corrected of any redness with Stila CC Color Correcting Cream with SPF 20 to leave a satin finish. Eyes were left luminous and sheer with Eyeshadow in Opal, All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Pink Shimmer and Stay All Day Waterproof Mascara.

Lips and cheeks were kept neutral and natural with Convertible Color Lip & Cheek in Lilium and Gerberra.

Sephora Pro – BCBGMAXAZRIA

The Look: “A veil of perfection.” Effortless chic was obtained with a flawless complexion, bronzed face with bold lashes with emphasis on the eyes and nude lips to go with the sheer natural beauty of the collection.

Products Used: For a flawless complexion, use Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Super-Charged Foundation, Marc Jacobs Beauty Perfection Powder Featherweight Foundation, Marc Jacobs Beauty O! Mega Bronze Perfect Tan in Tantric and Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer.

Pro Tip: Use two shades of foundation, one that matches your skin and one slightly darker to achieve the most natural-looking contour.

Finish with a light pat of glossing cream on cheekbones to highlight the Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Bronze Perfect Tan in Tantric.

Evelyn & Val Garland

Emphasis eyes using Tarte EmphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener and Buxom Sculpted Lash Mascara in True Black.

Pro Tip: Apply bronzer on an eyeshadow brush and finish with mascara for quick and easy definition.

Lips were kept nude with Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Lip Liner in 01 Nude and Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in Nude No 5.

Pro Tip: Pair nude liner with a creamy nude lip color to ensure lip color doesn’t fade into the background.
