Review, Hairstyle Trend 2016, 2017: Festive Ponytails Perfect For New Year’s Eve, Olivia Culpo, GHD

Olivia Culpo had three major ponytail moments recently that make for some serious hair envy and tons of inspiration for New Year’s Eve. See below for 3 awesome pony how-to’s from Celebrity Hairstylist Owen Gould, using ghd, as seen on Olivia Culpo.

Option One: Straight Up

“We started by blow drying the hair straight using the ghd Air and Paddle Brush to get the hair smooth and shiny. After that, I took one inch sections and used the ghd Platinum Styler make her hair pin straight. Once her hair was super sleek, we swept it up and secured it with a hair tie. To cover the tie and make the pony a bit fancier, I took one piece of her hair and twirled it around the hair band. Then I went over the hair again one last time with the platinum and added some of the ghd Smooth & Finish Serum to give it major shine.”

Option Two: With a Twist

“To start, I blew out her hair with the ghd Air and the Natural Bristle Radial Brush (size 3) for smoothness and volume. Once her hair was dry, I straightener her hair in one-inch sections using the ghd Platinum Styler to get her hair super sleek for the braid. Then, I pulled all her hair up into a pony, taking one piece of her hair and twirling it around the hair band to hide it away. Time for the fishtail! It’s easier than you think, you just have to be mindful to take the same size sections every time. I started a bit lower than the top of the pony, just to give it a bit of a more upscale sensibility. Once the hair was braided, I simply secured it with a hair band and she was good to go!”

Option Three: (Not) Neat

“I began blowing out her hair with the ghd Air with the diffuser attachment to ensure lots of volume and natural texture. Then, I curled her hair in two-inch sections using the ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand to create enhance that texture and volume. Once the texture had been added, I swept the hair into a high pony. After securing the hair, I teased it just to give the pony a little extra volume and finished with a light hold hairspray.”
