Developed by dermatologists, CeraVe Skin Renewing Gel Oil, $24.99, is a moisturizing formula that hydrates skin to improve radiance. The gel contains Ceraplex, a combination of five ceramides, as well as a sunflower blend to restore the protective skin barrier. It can be used day or night, and in combination with night cremes or moisturizers. The product is fragrance free, non-comedogenic, and hypo-allergenic. It’s said to be ideal for dry, dull skin.
I used it as directed for a period of about two weeks. It goes on very oily and did not seem suited for daytime use as the absorption was slow. At night I had to wait a while for it to sink in. But once it was absorbed, it work beautifully—rich, nourishing and perfect for winter dry skin. And it is very well priced for such a luxurious product; I would have expected to pay far more for something of this quality. CeraVe is my new, go-to winter serum.
Another product developed by dermatologists, the CeraVe Skin Renewing Day Cream with Sunscreen, $24.99 has the added benefit of retinol as well as an SPF factor of 30. I always thought that you had to avoid the sun when using retinol-based products, so finding a product with retinol that allowed for limited sun exposure seemed like a worthwhile innovation.
CeraVe Skin Renewing Day Cream is designed to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and is formulated with encapsulated retinol which does not irritate skin. Encapsulated retinol stabilizes and delivers the retinol gradually. CerVe Skin Renewing Day Cream also contains three essential ceramides, to help restore the protective skin barrier and provide broad spectrum coverage protection against UVA and UVB rays. It contains Octinoxate 7.5% and Zinc Oxide, 10.5% but does not include Oxybenzone, which is a skin irritant. In addition, the product contains a patented multi vesicular emulsion delivery technology, which ensures all day hydration. Fragrance free, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, the product is gentle on skin.
I used this daily for about two weeks. It was a bit sticky when first applied, but that soon passed and I was able to apply my make up over it without any problem. I did not notice a difference in fine line or wrinkles, but retinol has a great reputation and so perhaps with continued use I will see results. All in all, a good product at a reasonable price.
