Welcome to June, beauties! And even though we’re enjoying the first summer month with some overdue outdoor activities, you might be noticing some more breakouts as you’re peddling your bike or taking a break from your hike! Lucky for you, June is also Acne Awareness Month! Make sure to check in with the BeautyStat.com Blog as we bring you a series of acne-related articles all month long!

When breakouts are at their worst and oily skin has become the norm, there is not better way of blasting those impurities out of your skin than by getting a deep-cleaning facial. We stepped into the latest Red Door Spa location in Union Square, NYC. With a red, white and black color scheme and plenty of beauty stations, this modern spa is the one-stop shop to looking and feeling your absolute best.

I was first scheduled for a Microdermabrasion Facial, but, after a thorough examining of my skin by the spa’s Esthetics Department Lead Madeline Gawronska, I was advised to get the Oxygen Infusion Facial, when your skin is craving a quick pick-me-up. Madeline also asked me some questions about my skin type, diet and if I “do her job” (picking at those zits), which I easily confessed to doing — I wanted her to know what kind of skin she was working with. No truth serum needed for me!

A thorough cleansing and toning is followed by an infusion of oxygen and skin-supporting minerals, leaving skin instantly hydrated and younger looking. As Madeline cleansed my face, she also performed some extractions on my forehead and chin. She explained each step and I learned about some unexpected ingredients that are great for acne-prone skin:

The Great Pumpkin

The Red Door Spa Pumpkin Enzyme Exfoliator is specially formulated with organic pumpkin enzymes and a botanical blend to sweep away dead skin cells and deeply moisturize the skin. This exfoliator improves skintone and texture; skin looks brighter, healthy and revitalized.
Use at home once or twice a week to clean, damp skin. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse well and follow with moisturize. At The Red Door, we use Pumpkin Enzyme Exfoliator combined with Zinc Desincrustation Fluid.

Zinc: The Secret Acne Fighter

Zinc Desincrustation Fluid (available only in spas) is a gentle, deep pore cleanser formulated to exfoliate and dissolve sebum without irritating or drying the skin. This amazing fluid removes dead skin cells and encourages new growth without using harsh irritants. Zinc speeds the healing time of the skin with additional antibacterial and oil absorbing properties.

Last But Not Least: Put On That Coconut Oil!

Coconut oil is great to use as a nighttime moisturizer. It’s actually amazing for all skin types, including oily skin. Coconut oil also kills bacteria and balances over-active skin.

I was also given a pamphlet with all of the Red Door Spa products that were used on my face, and some notes on when I should return for my Clarifying Facial. So far, I have been using the the Clarifying Vitamin D Serum and Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Optimizing Skin Serum (at night and as my moisturizer). 3 Best Ingredients To Treat Acne-Prone Skin - Red Door Spa Oxygen Infusion Facial: Pumpkin, Zinc, Coconut Oil: Review

I have to say that my skin is looking smooth and clear. Of course, I still get my monthly hormonal breakouts, but for two weeks straight I had no new zits! If you are looking to jump-start your acne-fighting season, I highly suggest a trip to the Red Door Spa to get your acne under control. We got a long summer ahead of us!
