Fit for Queen Elizabeth: SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion Review

If it’s good enough for Cate Blanchett, it’s good enough for us. The actress’ (think Elizabeth) skin is always flawless, thanks to her skincare regimen with SK-II.

Whenever the skin feels windburned, dehydrated, or jet-lagged, I reach for my Facial Treatment Mask. It’s a veritable feast of goodness that is rich in enzymes and nutrients.

New on the block is the brand’s first pre-lotion which offers a mask like experience in addition to skin conditioning function. The product aims to deliver a boost of moisture while improving skin’s radiance.

SK-II Cellumination Mask In Lotion Pre-Lotion

It promises to give you the same amount of hydration in a mere 15 seconds as the substrate mask (the mask I “oohed” and “aahed” about above). This is possible using the Aura Bright Cocktail that contains Pitera, the ingredient exclusive to the brand. The “see-through” mask technology also gives a completely sheer, transparent quality to the pre-lotion, which is light and completely non tacky. It absorbs into the skin extremely well and does not glide or stick.

We used this night and day and felt a cooling sensation. Ideally, you’ll use this before using the Facial Treatment Essence. It is priced at $75 for 100ml. We give this lotion a two thumbs up for several reasons:

a) If you look at the luxury anti-aging options available, they pretty much all promise hydration. A few give you superb hydration and radiance at the same time, and for $75, the SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion is one of the few;

b) If you’re like me and are hooked to the Facial Treatment Mask, then you know how pricey this can be. In 15 seconds, you get the same levels of hydration as the substrate mask — it doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out;

c) It is a good prelude to your hydration routine; and studies have shown that more mature skin does needs extra love and care when it comes to moisture. The Pre-lotion + the Facial Treatment Essence will give you just the correct level of moisture your skin needs without feeling too dry or too greasy.

And there’s the radiance bit to the equation as well. It looks a lot like a Swarovski crystal.

Have you tried SK-II? What are your thoughts? I always find Asian skincare to be extremely calming, and wondered if you experienced the same.
