Review: Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle and UV Damage Corrector

We’ve seen countless skincare bottles to hit the cosmetic shelves with the promise of “wrinkle reduction” and “UV Damage Correction” and frankly, these claims are starting to resemble reality TV shows in their ubiquity.

We’ve loved Clinique from the get go: the brand targets a younger demographic and has delivered some real heavy-hitters and cabinet staples, from their All About Eyes that reduces circles and puffiness to their timeless classic Dramatically Different Moisturizer. Now, the Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle and UV Damage Corrector is being touted as the next best thing to getting a laser procedure directly from the dermatologist.

Review: Clinique Repairware Laser Focus Wrinkle and UV Damage Corrector

Lasers resurfacing does reduce wrinkles and it’s aimed at people who want immediate results. A procedure called carbon dioxide laser resurfacing, for example, vaporizes molecules in and out of cells, and causes thermal damage to the surrounding tissue. As a response to this, the skin starts producing more protein collagen to fill the wrinkles.

So, it would seem that the midas touch for flawless, baby-faced skin comes in the form of protein collagen. But Repairwear Laser Focus just doesn’t bottle collagen, like so many other serums; it contains three patented repairwear enzymes encapsulated in a liposome delivery technology. This platoon works overtime to save your skin’s life: they combat UVB-ray damaged skin at night, absorb visible light to promote cellular repair, and protect cells from oxidative damage. You’ll also find the usual suspects (antioxidants) in this sleek, translucent bottle.

Don’t you want to sing the national anthem for these fine ingredients?

Dr. Ellen S. Marmur, author of Simple Skin Beauty and Chief of Dermatologic and Cosmetic Surgery and Associate Professor at The Mount Sinai Medical Center New York, concurs. “I like the bottle and dropper (although the lotion comes out in a stream more than discrete drops so the instructions of ‘apply 3-4 drops’ twice daily are more like ‘apply a big squeeze of lotion twice daily,'” she says.
“Against all odds, I liked it! A lot! A discerning girl friend commented that I looked so good I must’ve done something. She said my skin texture was incredible. It’s not a moisturizer so be sure to use it first, then moisturize, and if daytime-use sunscreen.”

There’s an elegance to this serum, for sure, and there’s no stinging. For a mere $44 for 1 oz, this product looks and feels to us like the new gold standard of wrinkle-reducing serums. Which, in this post-recession economy, is saying a lot.
