Review, Ingredients, Photos: Soleil Organique Sun Care Line - Mineral Vs. Chemical Sunscreens, Which Is Better?

Soleil Organique is a premium and non-toxic skin care line that provides the most effective and safest products for the purpose of protecting the skin’s DNA from harmful UV rays and other environmental aggressors and toxins. I was happy to receive some of the products from the sunscreen range (4 products) this summer, just before my trip to Hawaii. Soleil Organique products utilize 100% mineral and marine based actives with no chemical actives, even for sunscreen products. I have tan-prone skin and can’t go out anywhere without sunscreen.

And girls, guess what? I was really surprised with the performance of the range —  I was hardly tanned after all those beach activities. I mostly use avobenzone based products for effective sun protection from both UVA and UVB rays, but, in this sun care range, it is boosted with an EcoSun Complex — a non-penetrating mineral filter boosted with sunscreen actives like titanium oxide and zinc oxide, which deliver natural and superior protection against harmful UVA rays that cause long-term cell damage, and UVB rays that cause sunburn. Now, let’s take a look at the comparison between chemical and mineral sunscreens:

Mineral vs. Chemical Sunscreens —  A Comparison

– Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV rays before they hit the skin. Studies show that chemical actives have proven to penetrate the skin in large amounts and penetrate into the bloodstream. These chemicals may disrupt the body’s hormonal system causing strong estrogenic actions that may result in serious problems in sexual development and adult sexual function, and may further increase cancer risks. Mineral sunscreens sit on top of the skin reflecting and scattering UV rays without penetrating healthy skin

– Mineral actives (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) provide the most effective and stable broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Only a few chemicals block UVA rays – concerning since UVA rays also cause long-term skin damage, premature aging and potential cancer. Mineral actives provide the best UVA protection

– Chemical actives produce free radicals that react with other molecules and produce damage to the fats, proteins, and DNA of the cells – the types of damage that produce skin aging and the development of cancer

– Chemical actives have questionable stability; some break down in the sun

– Mineral actives are stable in sunlight

The sun care range is empowered with EcoSun Complex — power-packed natural formulation composed of red algae, vitamin C ester, vitamin E and bisabolol — acts as a natural SPF booster, reduces UV-induced DNA damage, prevents loss of firmness, increases skin smoothness and decreases depth. SymHelios — an award-winning anti-aging active — neutralizes the toxins in wrinkles before they can attack healthy skin cells and work as an advanced cellular shield while providing superior UVB protection. These products are hypoallergenic, vegan and gluten-free; contain certified organic ingredients, 100% natural, fragrance-free and also contain no parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates, sulfates, propylene glycol, animal ingredients or testing with no synthetic fragrances or colors.
