You know the holiday season calls for late-night parties and get-togethers in a flash! So why not prepare in advance? This year, let the unexpected invitations be the surprise as opposed to the need for a last-minute party look.
How To Get The 3 Best Holiday/New Years Eve Looks Just Using Hairspray – Trim Topknot, Glam Waves, Half Up/Down Updo
Great hair is as important to the perfect evening out as the right outfit and shoes, so spend a cold winter night at home — grab some friends, some wine and an arsenal of R+Co products — to practice some New Year’s Eve hair looks! Hair legends and Co-Founders of R+Co – Garren, Thom Priano and Howard McLaren – share their tips with us on how to create perfect holiday hair this season in a few simple steps that will take you from day to night!
TIP 1: One editorial secret is to prep the hair in a way that allows a person to switch styles quickly through a photo shoot — and that trick works just as well when you need to go from day to night in an instant.
TIP 2: My go-to technique for easily transitioning from office to party features a braid by day and waves at night. A wide braid using large sections of hair will give you looser waves, while a couple of tight braids will create more defined waves.
For a shiny finish, start the night before with your favorite shampoo and conditioner and a good blow-dry. The next morning, dampen the hair with ONE Prep Spray, then comb CHIFFON Styling Mousse or JACKPOT Styling Crème (depending on the hold needed) through the hair and braid.
If you want a matte finish, switch to ROCKAWAY Salt Spray or MANNEQUIN Styling Paste on second-day hair before braiding. 1. When it’s time to head out to the party, undo the braids and break down the texture with your fingers or brush. 2. Spray DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo at the roots for volume. 3. For a little more polish, lightly apply TINSEL Smoothing Oil over the hair with your palms.
TIP 3: If you’re not able to get the waves you want, don’t panic: Use the amazing texture you’ve created to sweep hair into a cool undone updo. Pull hair into a bun, use the palms of your hands to smooth the sides for a “hairlo” effect, pull out a few pieces to make it look stylishly messy…and party on.
Short Hair Texture
TIP 4: Short hair is all about playing with texture and using just your hands for styling (the perfect tool at the office). Products like MANNEQUIN Styling Paste and AIRCRAFT Pomade Mousse allow you to create separation and movement in the morning and then can be reworked at the end of the day by reactivating with a little ONE Prep Spray for a slicked-back, always sexy look.
Add Some Glitter To Your Hair
TIP 5: For shorter hair lengths, get into the holiday spirit by mixing in some craft store glitter with your CONTINENTAL Glossing Wax. It will give your hair a little sparkle when you comb it through. 1. In the morning, use ONE Prep Spray and AIRCRAFT Pomade Mousse to create a well-groomed style for the office. 2. At night, rough your hair up with CONFORMIST Hair Paste to achieve an edgier look.
’40s-Inspired Glam Hair
TIP 6: For the woman with hair at the shoulder or above — an on-trend length I’m loving for the New Year — give yourself a good blowout with PARK AVE Blow Out Balm. 1. At night, make straight locks more festive by curling the bottom under for a ’40s-inspired roll. 2. If you’re good with a curling iron, separate the hair into 2 sections on each side and 2 in the back and curl the hair under. 3. Pin in place. 4. If hot rollers are more your thing, use those in the same way. 5. Let cool (this is a great time to do your makeup). 6. Remove the pins or rollers and let the hair fall into a very polished and romantic style.
When In Doubt, Use Dry Shampoo
TIP 7: Don’t have time to wash your hair? Give second or third-day hair new life with DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo. 1. Spray it through the hair and blow-dry with the cool air setting to achieve lots of volume. 2. Then, pull hair into a messy French twist. 3. Rake through the top of the hair with your fingers for more separation, and then lightly use your hands to add TINSEL Smoothing Oil for some holiday shine.
