Curly Texture

Textured hair NYFW SS15 6 Spring/Summer 2015 Hairstyle Trends: Curly Texture, Ponytails, Braids, Waves, Sculpted Chignon, Sleek Normcore Looks, Cuts

When isn’t it about sexy hair? At Betsey Johnson SS’15, Sexy Hair Lead Hairstylist Rafe Hardy incorporated back-combing to each volumized curl he made, using volumizing dry shampoo at roots and spray and play on ends before curling.

Three words: Textured. Faux. Bobs. This hairstyle is still going strong, but now with a little more texture. South African designer David Tiale created a statement with a strong hair look created by Motions Salon Hair Care Celebrity Stylist Ursula Stephen. He used Motions® Shine Enhancing Pomade on fingertips while braiding to smooth hair and provide a better grip. A crimping iron added texture for a new take on the faux bob.

At Jeremy Scott, the surfer lived on with individual takes on carefree hair from braids to crimped pieces! Hair was left natural and free-flowing by spraying a generous amount of Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz for texture.

Erratic waves were seen at the Ann Yee’s SS’15 show. To coincide with the clothes that featured malleable textures and clean lines, Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman created a sleek style that morphed into a rhythm of fitful waves coming together briefly off center, only to expand out into a full ponytail. Aveda Light Elements Texturizing Creme gave waves definition, while also smoothing down the top of the hair.

Ric Pipino for Alterna Haircare created fuss-free curly hair at the Georgine SS’15 show. He prepped damp hair by liberally applying the Alterna Haircare Bamboo Volume 2-in-1 Volumizer from root to tip. After creating more texture and curling strands, the entire look was sealed in with Alterna Haircare Bamboo Smooth Kendi Dry Oil Mist to the ends for a touch of shine.

Braids

Left to Right: Peter Som, Marissa Webb, Chromat, The Blonds, Maria Ke Fisherman

At Peter Som, the front of the hair portrayed a highly groomed menswear style, and from the back, a chic all-American woman was seen in the form of a braid. The sleek pompadour was achieved using Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse to the top layer of hair from the forehead to crown.

Marissa Webb’s SS’15 Collection was a variety of edgy, “downtown” separates for the creative woman on-the-go. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created 2 hairstyles that encompassed both a gritty vibe and a feminine twist. We loved the braided pompadour, which was achieved with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse and a Dutch braid (reverse French braid). The 3 braids were then gathered and twisted into a low bun, leaving ends loose.

Chuck Amos for Oribe Hair Care used a combination of Supershine and Gel Serum for his braided/top knot look at the Chromat SS’15 show. The hair product concoction helped him maneuver the hair in a way that avoided creating any bunchy braids, while the serum kept the braids together.

Get that gangsta genie braid seen at The BlondsSS’15 show. CATWALK® by TIGI® Global Creative Director Nick Irwin misted wet hair with CATWALK® by TIGI® Fast Fixx Style Prep and then used CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Wet Look Gel to small sections. He combed each section smooth and tight, and pulled into a high ponytail at the crown of the head.

Symmetric braids were seen at Maria Ke Fisherman, inspired by “imperviousness of innocence and youth in the fractal city.” Nick Irwin developed a strong braided look which softens through the front, speaking perfectly to Maria Ke Fisherman’s impermeable girl. Nick used a cornrow method and CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Work It Hairspray to get that urban look.

Carefree Waves

Natural Hair SS15 NYFW 6 Spring/Summer 2015 Hairstyle Trends: Curly Texture, Ponytails, Braids, Waves, Sculpted Chignon, Sleek Normcore Looks, Cuts

Left to Right: Narciso Rodriguez, Coach, Victoria Beckham, Kate Spade

Narciso Rodriguez‘s SS’15 runway show showcased effortless waves for the young, free and liberated woman. TRESemmé Lead Stylist Paul Hanlon sprayed on TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray all over to prevent damage when he used a ceramic plated straighter – like TRESemmé Salon Professional Flat Iron – around the hairline to achieve a flattering wave. He finished the look with TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème and a misting of TRESemmé Climate Protection Finishing Spray for flexible hold.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a cool, ’70s-inspired hairstyle at the Coach SS’15 show, playing up the retro-inspired collection. The hair was kept as natural as possible, using guts 10 and wind blown 05 to create great texture with a little bit of lift. A low side part over one eye, and the other side tucked behind the ear, gave a cool boyish look that was still very soft and feminine.

At Victoria Beckham, Guido created a very easy and undone style that gave way for a more modern feel. Hair dried naturally with a messy side part created using fingers. Redken’s NEW! wind blown 05 dry finishing spray texturized and lifted the roots a bit; a wide-barrel curling iron was used to bend random clumps of hair for added body.

The hair at Kate Spade was supposed to evoke a fresh start. Garnier Celebrity Hair Stylist Tommy Buckett used a curling iron wand to create soft and natural waves in the hair. He then applied Deconstructed Texture Tease Dry Touch Finish Spray from the root to the mid-shaft
for tousled, airy fullness. He then rubbed Deconstructed Pixie Play Crafting Cream on the ends to define them and give a piecey effect.

Ponytails

Ponytails NYFW SS15 6 Spring/Summer 2015 Hairstyle Trends: Curly Texture, Ponytails, Braids, Waves, Sculpted Chignon, Sleek Normcore Looks, Cuts

Left to Right: Jason Wu, Cushnie et Ochs, Pamella Roland, Diesel, Katie Gallagher

For Jason Wu, Odile Gilbert for Kérastase Paris made a side-part low ponytail using
Mousse Bouffant and Ciment Thermique. He used a paddle brush and blow-dried in a backwards motion for more volume. Baume Double Je was added as the finishing touch to prevent fly-aways and secure hair in place.

Antonio Corral Calero, Moroccanoil Global Creative Director, created a look inspired by Cleopatra in the desert sunset for the Cushnie et Ochs SS’15 show. The simple, sleek ponytail with a twist was created by taking 1” section of the ponytail and spraying it with Moroccanoil Heat Styling Protection for long-lasting hold. He then wrapped hair around the elastic and secured it.

Pamella Roland drew inspiration for her SS’15 Collection from The Gardens of Kyoto, Japan. To complement the designs, Lead Hair Stylist Ted Gibson created a modern hair look that paid homage to the fierce spirit of Japanese warriors and delicate beauty of Geishas. Ted created a deep center part, starting at the forehead and continuing to the crown of the head. He then applied L’Oreal Professionnel Gelée Cashmere to the front of the hair, along with L’Oreal Professionnel Texture Expert Perfect Shimmer Shine Illuminating Mist for added high shine.

Inspired by the modern day woman, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a polished, modern ponytail for Diesel’s SS’15 show. Guido achieved this classic ready-to-wear style using Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to blow the hair out straight, then combed it back into a smooth, low ponytail with a deep side part. To add a futuristic feeling, he finished the look with a liberal misting of Forceful 23 super strength hairspray to create a lacquer-like effect.

Katie Gallagher’s SS’15 Collection was inspired by the idea of ‘sad romance.’ Inspired once again by Katie herself, CATWALK® by TIGI® Global Creative Director Nick Irwin developed an airy, romantic hair look that spoke perfectly to Gallagher’s effortlessly chic girl. He sprayed the ponytail with CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo and scrunched with fingers to buckle the hair, adding movement and additional texture.

Sculpted Chignon

Left to Right: Novis, Carmen Marc Valvo, Alice+Olivia

A sculpted take on a classic chignon was on display at the Novis SS’15 presentation. Aveda Guest Artist Frank Rizzieri created a sculptural knotted bun to coincide with the details and distinction of the collection. He blow-dried hair straight to help expand the volume while also creating sleekness; a light misting of BrilliantTM Spray-On Shine added a touchable sheen.

Ted Gibson and team styled the hair for Carmen Marc Valvo’s 25th Anniversary NYFW show. “I knew I wanted to make this season’s hair super-special, so I thought it would be chic to incorporate a silver streak into the hair look for a 50 Shades of Gray moment,” explains Ted. “I knew that this soft, side-swept chignon for the women was perfect to bring out that Old Hollywood glamour of the collection, with the silver streak bringing it into the new millennium!”

Alice+Olivia featuring Michael Dueñas for OSiS+ braided a silk scarf into a classic chignon. Hair was parted in the middle and controlled using OSIS + Grip Extreme Hold Mousse from scalp to ends. A low, tight ponytail was made and secured with an elastic. A scarf was then pulled through the elastic. The ponytail was sectioned into 3 braids and wrapped in with the scarf. A tight bun was secured with large pins at the back of the head.

Sleek Normcore Hair

Sweaty Hair NYFW ss15 6 Spring/Summer 2015 Hairstyle Trends: Curly Texture, Ponytails, Braids, Waves, Sculpted Chignon, Sleek Normcore Looks, Cuts

Left to Right: DKNY, Zac Posen, Thakoon, Alexander Wang, Creatures of Comfort

The look at the DKNY SS ’15 show saw the brand revisiting its ‘90s roots, with a take on the diverse New York urban youth culture of that time. Using a tint brush, Eugene Souleiman, Creative Director at Wella Professionals, applied Wella Professionals Sculpt Force Gel to the roots of each wisp of hair, then worked the gel through the length of the hair with his fingers.

At the Zac Posen SS’15 show, Lead Artist Odile Gilbert for Kérastase created a glossy feminine pompadour using products from the brand’s Couture Styling Collection, including Forme Fatale blow dry gel, NEW! Laque Noire strong hold hairspray and NEW! Kératine Thermique thermo-protecting primer.

Lead Artist Odile Gilbert for Kérastase created a glossy, just-out-of-the-water hairstyle at the Thakoon SS’15 show. To achieve the look, Odile used stylers from the brand’s iconic Couture Styling Collection and the NEW! Kératine Thermique thermo-protecting primer.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido brought sophistication and sportiness to the Alexander Wang SS’15 runway. Putting a twist on the classic low ponytail, Guido created a modernly futuristic feeling with a very sleek, sporty-inspired pony. Using hardwear 16 super-strong sculpting gel and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist, Guido changed the effect of a simple hairstyle with contrasting wet and dry textures.

At the Creatures of Comfort SS’15 show, the hair evoked an effortless, modern look with an emphasis on different textures. Esther Langham for Beauty.com used Alterna Haircare and T3 Tools. Alterna Bamboo Volume 48-Hour Sustainable Volume Spray was added to the roots and combed through the hair with a large comb. Once hair was dry, Alterna Bamboo Style FreeStyle Flexible Control Gel was applied from the front of the hairline, directly above the forehead, to the back of the head until the hair sat flat on the head with a wet look.
