So you’ve decided the Brazilian Blowout doesn’t exactly fit into your recession budget (sad face). As much as I love the treatment, I can’t say I don’t understand. So put away your credit card, and breathe a deep sigh of relief.
Hair health isn’t something exclusively for the rich and famous, or even those who pretend to be. It turns out your kitchen already has all you need!
MIX AND MASK
Tropical Heat Treat – For optimal results, slather your mane with warm oil before washing, and cover with a plastic cap for half an hour. Unlike other oils that merely coat the hair shaft, coconut oil actually penetrates your strands to infuse them with moisture. Think of it as a 30-minute trip to the tropics… without the humidity.
Put All Your Eggs In One Basket – Grab a ripe avocado (you won’t be able to eat it before it goes bad anyway), and mash it up with the yolk of one egg. This mask should be applied to your hair for 15 minutes before you wash and style.
Yolk be bright, shiny and new!
Hold The Mustard – You may ration yourself to one teaspoon of mayonnaise per sandwich, but now is not the time to be shy. Massage half a cup into your hair when damp, and rinse after 20 minutes. It’s like aioli, only for your hair – and you know aioli makes everything better! Mother mayo, I?
Make Nice With Your Rice – Who doesn’t want to build body and create hold?
According to former celebrity stylist Peter Lamas, all you need to do is boil some rice. After a few minutes, drain the water (once it’s cooled!) into a spray bottle and keep in the fridge. DAILY DO’S (AND DON’TS!)
Heat treats and deep conditioners are all well and good. (Okay, they’ll work wonders.) But like they say, there’s power in the details. Work these to-dos into your day-to-day, and you’ll see results in no time.
