So much good comes out of NYFW! You get to meet new and creative people, connect with old friends and learn about exciting new products and salons.
I heard about the Lotus Salon during a chance encounter with hairstylist Selda Cortes, who is also a freelance hairstylist having worked on campaigns for Diesel, Kristi Vosbeck Designs and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).
She was the lead hairstylist at the Kristi Vosbeck fashion show during S/S ’14 NYFW. It was her first time leading a team of stylists; she managed to crush it by the way, creating a messy curl and braid updo that evoked an ethereal look.
Selda warmly greeted me during the show, allowing this eager beauty editor to hang around and get a glimpse of backstage. A couple of days later, she invited me to experience her salon’s blow-out and deep conditioning treatment.
I couldn’t say no. So, I made an appointment with her at the Lotus Salon, located in the ultra-trendy Tribeca area (there are two locations in NYC).
A wide and luxe interior housed salon chairs spaciously, with gorgeous lengthening mirrors and modern furniture throughout. Selda got right to work and was fired up to introduce me to the Eufora haircare line.
Designed to protect, preserve and promote the health of color-treated and chemically serviced hair, Eufora has used its unique blend of botanical extracts and aloe vera properties to design the most natural way to keep your hair looking beautiful.
Eufora is exclusively available at independent salons, and prides itself in being the only salon professional product line to provide certified organic aloe vera in the optimum quality and concentration required to deliver its true power.
There are also no synthetic fragrances, sodium laureth sulfate, carcinogenic or suspected carcinogenic ingredients in any of Eufora’s products.
Selda first clarified and washed my hair with the Eufora Urgent Repair Shampoo, a biodegradable, detoxifying cleansing treatment that removes dulling and damaging build-up such as metal ions; it also reduces water hardness, acts as an effective antioxidant, reduces free-radical generation and stabilizes peroxide.
It also prevents further damage from heat styling and environmental stresses. This mild, non-irritating, color-safe chelating shampoo can also be used by people with product sensitivities and is ideal to prep hair prior to salon color application and deep conditioning treatments. Some of the ingredients include:
• Chelating Agent – Unique biodegradable chelating agent is derived from meadow foam seed and has a low pH balance
• Lychee Berry – This ingredient has an efficient free radical scavenging effect to reduce color-fading and protect hair against the toxic effects of oxygen radical stress. Hair color remains shiny and vibrant longer, while hair structure and hair growth are preserved
• Eufora’s Thermal Protection System – Including essential amino acids, panthenol and silica, this system protects the hair shaft by counteracting oxidative stress, maintaining keratin, inhibiting flaking, stimulating cell division, and restoring normal protein metabolism
• Sulfate-Free Surfactant System – Derived from coconut oil, this system produces a creamy, foamy lather free of harsh irritants and color-safe with natural conditioning benefits
• Certified Organic Aloe Vera Gel – An incredible moisturizer, aloe vera is an outstanding carrier for vitamins C, D and E by quickly transferring vitamins to cells and binding them longer.
• Pure Essential Oils – To create a true aromatherapy experience, Eufora aromas are complex blends of the highest grade pure essential oils
Its highly concentrated formula (80% aloe vera!) looks like a conditioner, but it lathers into a rich foam that felt both deep-cleansing and moisturizing — something I usually don’t expect from a shampoo. It left a great tingling sensation on the scalp; Selda advises that with organic haircare products the more you use, the better the results.
It was then on to the deep conditioning! Selda created a cocktail of conditioners, mixing together the pureTech Professional Treatment Conditioning Additive (not available for purchase, only in salons), the Beautifying Serum and Urgent Repair Replenishing Treatment for dry and damaged hair.
I was lucky to take the Urgent Repair Replenishing Treatment home with me, which is equipped with wheat, soy and keratin proteins to strengthen and repair the hair shaft while adding shine.
A premium blend of botanical extracts such as chamomile, henna, nettle and horsetail are proven to create healthy hair from scalp to ends. This conditioner can even be used on your skin to soothe any irritation like bug bites. It is recommended to be used as a treatment for 3-5 minutes, but can be used on a daily basis as well with no side effects.
Selda even gave me a great tip that she believes wholeheartedly: Make sure to rinse hair with cold water. It has been known to aid in hair growth, which she has seen work on many of her clients. She swears by it!
Once that was all combined and smoothed into my hair, I was put under some heat to seal it all in, which ended with a blast of cool air to close the hair cuticles.
It felt amazing and my hair has never looked so healthy. Selda finished off the treatment with a blow-out. I already have long hair, but the blow-out that Selda performed with just a rounded bristle brush and hair dryer made it look about 2-inches longer!
I can’t wait to go back and try out some other Eufora products. Selda mentioned that her favorite product is the Touch UP Clear Texturizing Dry Spray Shampoo, which I can’t wait to try on my roots and bangs.
