I have naturally wavy, thick hair that is not very nice unless it is tended to. My favorite style is to blow-dry it out straight and then curl. Excited barely scratches the surface in describing how I felt when I heard Frederic Fekkai’s new Wave Makers gentle foam curlers and Perfectly Luscious Curls Wave Activating Spray ($25.00) was on its way to my house for me to review.

The product came adorably packaged in a classy, mesh-like zippered purple bag with 8 yellow foam curlers. The rollers came with Perfectly Luscious Curls, a wave activating spray. It was made with a grape seed extract that had a fantastic scent. I wanted so badly to love these rollers. I even fantasized about giving them out as an extra gift to my bridal party.

I tried the rollers a total of three times. The first time, my hair was damp and I slept in the curlers. I had trouble rolling my hair; I think my hair was too thick, so I did not get much of my hair in the curlers. I had trouble locking them in, which was not a great experience. I woke and took the rollers out… I looked like a poodle! I tried to pull out some of the curls, but it just did not work for me.

The second time I rolled my hair dry and I only left them in for a couple of hours. My hair definitely got some body, and I liked the way it looked. I think if I would have left them in for another hour or so, it would have been perfect.

The third time I had help with the rollers. I had my hair rolled damp and slept in them. My hair again came out too curly, and I did not like the look.

I do think these rollers can work on the right kind of hair, with a little more experimenting. The positives are they are pretty easy-to-use, once you get the hang of them. They also are very comfortable to sleep in. Lastly, they are easy to travel with.
The spray worked nicely at holding my curls. These products are worth a try, because all different hair types will yield different results.

GRADE: B

The good news is that Frederic Fekkai is giving them away as a complimentary gift, while supplies last, with a $75 Fekkai purchase at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Dillards, Fekkai.com or Fekkai salons.
