What’s “Hot in your Salon”? Haircare and Hairstyle Trends from Around the Country

In the world of beauty, like in real estate, there are some clear hotspots that come to mind, NYC being the most obvious. Many of the country’s top makeup artists and hair stylists reside in this fashion Mecca, but AOL wants to give props to amazing stylists across the country. And they’re doing so in a pretty public way.

StyleList.com, AOL’s beauty and style website, just launched a new feature called “Hot in My Salon.” The video showcase features videos spotlighting the top trends for hair, nails and makeup in nearly 100 salons across the United States. Each one of the salons featured in “Hot in My Salon” was chosen for its unique take on hip trends and styles.

These salons are on the cutting edge of beauty innovation and are riding the beauty trend wave in a major way. “Hot in My Salon” features “how to” videos with simple tips on recreating the most popular looks of the day, and includes tips on perfecting big wavy hair, achieving beachy tousled waves, and taming textured and coarse hair.

The video series is presented in partnership with hair giant Suave, and is an attempt to give the readers what they want most: hands on advice, says Diane Davis, editorial director of StyleList.com.

“Hair is one of the most searched and popular topics on StyleList so we wanted to provide users with a glimpse into different hot trends and styles across America,” Davis says. “The depth of our video coverage will bring the fascination with hair, makeup and nail care trends to real women everywhere, with advice on how to reproduce the looks at home, what to ask for at the salon and how to make the latest looks work.”

The trends and techniques featured vary greatly from coast-to-coast, but here’s a little taste of what you can expect to see on “Hot in My Salon.”

katy-perry

Austin, TX: Vintage hair is back at the Joie De Vie Salon in Austin. Their most requested hairstyle is the 1950s pin up look — think Katy Perry or retro calendar.

Anchorage, AK: Women at the Beauty Room salon are embracing the ’80s, particularly the modern mullet. Short and shaggy in the front and long in the back, this look is sleek, edgy and oh so versatile.

Biloxi, MS: The hottest style lately at the Jessica Jones Studio at Salon Bleu? The Rapheal updo! Part glamorous and part bohemian, this hot style works for weddings, proms or cocktails with the girls.

Chapel Hill, NC: Moshi Moshi salon’s fishtail braid is very popular now for clients of and offers a fresh and modern alternative to the typical ponytail.
