After 20 years as a makeup artist, Rea Ann has done it all, working with celebrities on the red carpet to the silver screen. She created the beautyblender when HD cameras took over Hollywood and complexions had to look absolutely flawless without looking too cakey. Now, women everywhere can get the same faultless skintone they see in the magazines and on TV. Re Ann showed us herself at Sephora how she uses the beautyblender, properly!

Step 1: Fully submerge the sponge in the water. Squeeze and saturate it under water; you’ll feel it get soft and squishy as it fills up.

Step 2: Squeeze and towel-dry to get the excess water out.

Step 3: You’re done! Time to put the beautyblender to work!

Its size increases 3X when fully damp, so don’t just spritz water on the sponge — you won’t get the full effect of the makeup sponge’s capability. The top surface allows the makeup to stay outside and not seep into your beautyblender. It deposits and blends the makeup at the same time, which is the reason why you end up with an airbrushed-looking finish.

So make sure to bounce it on your skin when applying your powder, liquid or cream foundation. Use the bigger side to apply blush and pointy side to get into hard-to-reach places, like under your eyes, around your nose and inner corners. PSST! Word on the street is that another tool is coming out for smaller areas. Just so you know!

And when it comes to cleaning your beautyblender, Rea Ann has also taken the guesswork out of keeping your sponge lasting for 6 months! Oil and dirt from your face will stay on your applicators if you don’t take a moment to properly clean them. The Blendercleanser (available in a liquid and solid) is a lightly lavender-scented cleanser that’s free of dyes and skin irritants. It’s soothing soy-based, low-suds formula breaks down rapidly, making it earth-friendly and fun to use.

To Use: Apply a dime-sized amount of Blendercleanser to soiled areas of beautyblender. Work into a lather, rinse, repeat if necessary. Squeeze to remove excess water. Set beautyblender on insert pedestal to dry.

  1. I do own an original pink beautyblender. I use it with various liquid foundations and concealers. How I use it is by stippling/dabbing my foundation or concealer lightly on my face.

  2. I own the original beauty blender and micro minis. I love using the beauty blender to apply my liquid foundation and use the minis for my highlighter. i also love the cleanser because it gets the job done!
