Another year, another wave of new products! Looking back at 2014, we’ve tried our fair share of mascaras — the ones that promised to volumize, curl, lengthen and “wow” us with incredibly thick, doll-like lashes! We’ve tested them ALL and only a few stood out among the plenty. Not to mention some oldie but goodies we kept handy before giving the newbies a chance. Read on to find out BeautyStat.com’s 13 Best Mascaras of 2014 from our fave beauty editors, writers, experts and bloggers. Go on! See if your mascara pick of the year made the list.
Pick: COVERGIRL Clump Crusher Mascara By Lashblast. “As far as drugstore mascaras go, I’m loving the COVERGIRL Clump Crusher Mascara By Lashblast! The brush is flawlessly clump-less (as promised), and it really lifts and extends the lashes noticeably.” Bryce Gruber Editor of TheLuxurySpot.com | Follow Bryce on Twitter and Instagram @brycegruber
Pick: L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara. “I tend to prefer drugstore mascara over prestige, because the formulas are drier and more buildable. The entire Voluminous line is wonderful, but this is the first year I tried False Fiber and I love it! It “flakes” instead of smears after extended wear, so you don’t wake up with raccoon eyes if you wear it and get lucky. Plus, you can really build it up for a falsie effect.” – Mandie Williams | BeautyStat.com Beauty Editor | Follow her on Twitter @mandiethekid & Instagram @KIDWILLIAMS
Pick: Kjaer Weis Mascara. “The certified organic formula gives you the most beautiful, natural-looking lashes without flaking or clumping like many other organic formulas. It’s buildable for longer, thicker lashes. But it’s best when used to enhance what you have for a minimalist, no-makeup makeup look. Plus, the packaging is divine.” Alexis Wolfer of TheBeautyBean.com | Follow her on Twitter & Instagram @AlexisWolfer
Pick: COVERGIRL Bombshell Volume Mascara by Lashblast. “I LOVE the Bombshell Volume Mascara by Lashblast. It turns my decently long lashes into va-va-voom, full lashes to the point where I look like I’m wearing falsies.” – Lara Eurdolian of Pretty Connected and In His Clothes | Follow her on Twitter and Instagram @prettyconnected & @inhisclothes
Pick: Gucci Opulent Volume Mascara. “The first mascara from Gucci is incredibly effective. You apply from the top of the lashes, down, then from the root, up for full coverage and an awesome color payoff. Some high-end mascaras actually wind up being kind of low quality because manufacturing is left up to a third party. But the Gucci Volume Mascara was created in part by legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath, so you know you’re getting everything you want in a mascara.” Augusta Falletta, BuzzFeed Beauty Editor, Beauty Buzz | Follow her on Twitter and Instagram @TheAugustaWind
Pick: Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara. “I typically don’t spend more than like $8 on mascara (foundation, blush, and lipstick, on the other hand, I find myself always splurging on). But this one is totally worth every buck. It has a jet black pigment and makes my lashes look longer and more voluminous, almost like I’m wearing falsies.” Danielle Gray of The Style and Beauty Doctor | Follow her on Twitter @StyleNBeautyDoc and Instagram @stylenbeautydoc
Pick: FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Mascara. “For that go-to, everyday mascara, I love the FAIRYDROPS Scandal Queen Mascara. The uniquely shaped wand-brush hugs even the most sparse lashes.” Courtney Leiva, BeautyStat.com Beauty Editor, Writer | Follow her on Twitter and Instagram
Pick: Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara: My all-around favorite! It lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts and separates my lashes. The end bristles are perfect for getting the lower lashes. Yevy Yelkina, BeautyStat.com Beauty Editor | Follow Yevy on Twitter and Instagram
Pick: Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara. “I tried a small sample of this mascara and was immediately hooked! It has a great black mineral pigment, and the innovative five-ball brush lengthens, volumizes and curls lashes in one swipe. I felt like I didn’t need eyeliner after using this 100% argan oil-infused mascara. Plus, it made my lashes feel soft and smooth, not brittle and dry.” – Theresa Romano, Managing Editor at BeautyStat.com |Follow Theresa on Twitter & Instagram @there_esa
Pick: Fashion Fair Bold Lash Mascara.“My favorite mascara pick for 2014 is Fashion Fair’s Bold Lash Mascara. It doesn’t smudge, run, and it gives off a thick, doll-like inky lash look that truly flatters. I was introduced to it this year, and have been hooked every since!” – Jacqueline Laurean Yates, Associate Beauty & Grooming Editor at Ebony. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram
Pick: Cherry Blooms Brush On Fibre Eyelash Extensions. “Lately, I find myself in a love/hate relationship with mascara. I love long, feathery pitch black longer-than-long lashes… but I absolutely despise the nightly removal process. Cherry Blooms Brush On Fibre Eyelash Extensions is my answer to everything. Not only does this genius little mascara create the instant effect of lush lash extensions, it also removes with just soap and water. Sold. Love!” – Felicia Walker Benson of ThisThatBeauty.com | Follow her on Twitter & Instagram @ThisThatBeauty
Pick: IT COSMETICS Tightline® Full Lash Length Black Mascara Primer. “This is the base I use before applying all my mascaras. It has the tiniest wand that really gets close to the lash and makes your eyelashes look fuller.” – Christina of TheMakeUpBlogger.com| Follow her on Twitter @Makeupblogging and Pinterest at Makeupblogger
Pick: Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. “My favorite mascara of the year is Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. It’s the blackest mascara that I own and it does a good job at giving me length and volume. The bristles are great at grabbing all my lashes and coating them evenly.” – Courtney of Phyrra Beauty for the Bold | Follow her on Twitter and Instagram @phyrra
