Best Makeup, Hairstyle Trends 2016: Beauty Behind the Scenes at the 2015 Golden Globes

Best Makeup, Hairstyle Trends 2016: Beauty Behind the Scenes at the 2015 Golden GlobesEver wonder what it’s like to work a red-carpet? BeautyStat reporter Diedre Johnson takes you behind the scenes at the Golden Globes.

This wasn’t my first trip to the Globes. And yet, this time was just as exciting.

Unlike many other awards shows, the GGs are always a little bit over the top—perhaps because of the free-flowing bubbly. Indeed, there were plenty of mini-Moet bottles on hand to get the party started and help calm nominees’ nerves.

I arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel and, right away, spotted Sons of Anarchy actress Annabeth Gish in a stylish, long-sleeved black dress. She looked pensive and tense. Lighten up, lady—it’s the Globes!

I picked up my credentials for the NBC after party I was there to cover, and watched a few celebrities strut the red carpet. Ooo, is that Cindy Crawford? The ultimate supermodel was rocking blue and chatting with girlfriends. (I tried to get her to pose, but she dismissed me!)

jeremy renner Best Makeup, Hairstyle Trends 2016: Beauty Behind the Scenes at the 2015 Golden GlobesI decided to make my way to the hotel lobby–just in time to spy Jeremy Renner with what looked like three or four people trying hard to not let people see Jeremy Renner (tough luck, handlers). I came, I snapped, I tweeted!

Next, I saw Downton Abbey‘s Joanne Froggatt. She looked beautiful in an off-the-shoulder, evening gown. She was walking side-by-side with a much taller gentleman. (Note to self: IMDB her. Is that her hubby?)

I decided to wander into one of the suites that had been transformed into a makeup-refresher room for the evening. I asked the artists if they had any celebrity tidbits to share, but, alas, they said no.

Security was everywhere and I wasn’t sure if my press pass would give me access to certain suites, but then I found the room with food! The decor was warm and inviting, and, yes, the food was tasty.

Security came to tell me that it was time for reporters to return to their assigned spots on the red carpet. There were only a few more awards being handed out before the party was to begin! I took my time–because red carpets can be painfully slow. (It’s not all glitz and glamour.)

Eventually, on the carpet, I chatted with the party’s official DJ, Harley Viera-Newton, who was dressed in head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana. “I trust them with my life,” she said.

shaun robinson Best Makeup, Hairstyle Trends 2016: Beauty Behind the Scenes at the 2015 Golden GlobesNext, I talked to Access Hollywood reporter Shaun Robinson. I wanted her take on the fashion and beauty trends of the evening. She said, “We saw a lot of white tonight and then there was a color called deep yellow—more of a limoncello.” Later, I saw Amber Rose and Katherine Heigl rocking winter whites. (Good eye, Shaun!)

When you’re working a red carpet as a reporter, it’s all business. You are there to interview celebs, take photos, and do on-spot reporting. But then there are those occasional “lucky-me moments,” when you forget it’s your job and turn into a fan—like when a very pregnant, but still glamorous Tamara Mowry and her hubby Adam Housely walked by. They didn’t stop on our end of the carpet, but Tia coyly waved. (I’d like to think that was for me.)

New couple alert: Dylan McDermott and actress Maggie Q passed my way. McDermott, who is often shy with the press, didn’t stop, but he did look happier than I’ve ever seen him before.

eliza cuthbert Best Makeup, Hairstyle Trends 2016: Beauty Behind the Scenes at the 2015 Golden GlobesI was able to snap a picture of Elisha Cuthbert, but she probably wasn’t too happy with me. My camera failed to shoot and I embarrassingly begged her to wait while I got my act together. (Sorry, Elisha!)

Pretty soon, the party was over and it was time to pack it up! Joan Froggatt was still with her handsome male friend, but now he was holding on a bit tighter. Was it my imagination or was she looking a little clumsy on her feet? Another reporter witnessed the same, and said, “Ah, she should have some fun. After all, she won.”
