You may have seen this new makeup trend floating around Instagram or Twitter lately. It’s called reversed winged liner or backwards liner. It’s a little trippy to look at, isn’t it? It’s almost like your eye is playing tricks on you! Makeup artists and enthusiasts have been creating looks with this reversed eyeliner all over the internet.
With this look, your eyeliner wing goes towards the inner corner of your eye, as opposed to the outer corner of your eye, where it would typically be. This probably isn’t your everyday look (or maybe it is, if you’re daring like that) but it’s still super fun and trendy right now.
I wanted to give a few tips and pointers on how to achieve this look. I would not recommend using a pencil liner for this type of application because it’s likely not going to give you enough precision or the sharpest wing for this type of look. I would rather recommend using a liquid eyeliner pen or a gel pot. It’s probably your personal preference on which style to use. If you’re going to use a gel pot though, you’ll need a brush to apply it. I would recommend an angled liner brush. Since this is a look where the liner is heavily focused on the inner corner, where our eyes tend to water, it’s important to choose the right type of eyeliner for longevity of wear.
If you’re more of a liquid eyeliner type of person, you might like the Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner or the Givenchy Liner Couture Precision Felt-Tip Eyeliner. When it comes to liquid eyeliner, some people prefer felt-tip pens while others prefer brush tips. The size of the pen tube can also play a factor into finding your favorite go-to eyeliner pen.
