Being that zodiac stones and colors seem to be trending as of late, I first thought that these NEW limited-edition Dolce & Gabbana products were based around birthstones. I was wrong. They are actually based upon JEWELS. Flashes of the golden Byzantine mosaics and jewelry that lit up the Dolce & Gabbana runway are reflected in the Sicilian Jewels lip and nail colors.
“I love jewels: they are symbols of power and passion. I love how they reflect the light: that’s why they have always been part of our collection since the very beginning. We adorn with gems our accessories, our corsetry, everything, like in our latest winter collection, which is the ultimate expression of what jewelry means for us, ” says Stefano Gabbana.
The Sicilian Jewels Collection features 4 NEW shades of the Classic Cream Lipstick ($35.00 each) with corresponding Intense Nail Lacquers ($24.00 each). Colors include Ruby (deep red), Amethyst (bright purple), Emerald (ice-cold, luminous green) and Topaz (golden amber yellow).
The colors were chosen as direct inspiration from the Sicilian medieval and baroque influences. It also references the highly expressive and pigmented luxury makeup that brought Dolce & Gabbana Creative Advisor, Pat McGrath, into the spotlight.
“Matching your lipstick to your nail lacquer is a hot makeup trend. We chose four new shades that showcase the theatrical and playful side of looking good: they are so shiny and special that they’ll be a perfect compliment to any holiday or New Year outfit.
They can be worn in a young, ironic interpretation or with a more grown-up, sophisticated vibe. Just like a piece of jewelry.”
Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Jewels Collection is available now at select Saks Fifth Avenue locations and saksfifthavenue.com. PS — I layered a dab of Topaz over Ruby, yet only placed it in the center of my lips to make them appear fuller.
