 1) What is M·A·C ‘s nail polish forecast for this season and Spring/Summer 13?

This season, terracotta tones and deep aubergines are the popular colors for nails. Try M·A·C Cosmetics Nail Lacquer ($16.00) in Style Seeker or Gadabout Girl. For next season, I predict we are on the brink of experiencing one of the biggest trends in the nude nail: It may be sheer or opaque; have a satin or a matte finish, but the essence of the look is “foundation” for the nails.

2) Which designers have been rocking the nude-nail look?

Check out [the nail looks from the Spring/Summer ’13] shows like Marimekko, Just Cavalli, Blumarine or Proenza Schouler (pictured above) to see all the variations on this up-and-coming trend.

3) Any tips for consumers on how to get these looks?

A well-manicured nail is the most important step in being able to rock a perfect nude nail. Just like the perfect lingerie, there is not much left to the imagination. Be sure to take care of your cuticles this winter. Massaging Vitamin E or cuticle oil to your cuticles every night, and using a soft nail brush in the shower, will help keep the skin around your nails healthy.

File your nails so that they all have the same length and shape. Next season we will be seeing lots of shorter nails that have a rounder chicer shape. Pick a color that is similar to your skin tone. Try M·A·C Cosmetics Nail Lacquer in Quiet Time, Skin or Coffee Break.

Apply a base coat followed by two coats of your favorite nude color. Remember to cap/coat the free edge of your nail to ensure a long lasting manicure.  Finish it off with a layer of M·A·C Cosmetics Over Lacquer ($16.00) as the top coat. Voilà! The perfect nude nails!
