After waiting for I don’t know how many weeks for these to survive the trek to Brooklyn, and then not be stolen from my lobby by some terrible person with a taste for high-end beauty, 2 Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks FINALLY arrived in my hot little hands. The buildup was intense. Would the hot pink and bright red be full coverage? Super-matte? Moisturizing?
First, packaging. Lipstick is one of the few cosmetics that I feel confident and sexy whipping out for reapplication in restaurants, and it certainly helps if the packaging is on point. SmashBox Be Legendary Lipsticks have a mod, squared off tube that’s matte black. The top goes on with a satisfying click. You don’t know you want your lipstick to snap closed until it does. A+!

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks feel light and creamy on lips (mmm, sexy!), and the color is buildable and very easy to work with. You can achieve impressive full coverage that isn’t dry or chalky. Mandarin layers up into a gorgeous opaque orange-y red that reminds me of the 1950s. Blue-based reds may make your teeth look whiter, but orange ones are easier for summer daytime wear. Just add a flick of liner and a coat (or 3) of mascara and you’re set. Mandarin‘s finish is a glossy cream, but there are matte Be Legendary options as well.

A lip color that feels so nice on the lips is not usually a good sign for long-wear, but the color held up nicely with no middle-of-mouth-fade for over 4-hours of wear at the park. The color would have lasted even longer if I didn’t decide to ruin my retro diva look by tearing into a giant eggplant parm sandwich. Sacrifices.
