I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sung hits by Gwen Stefani at the top of my lungs (remember Don’t Speak, Spiderwebs, It’s My Life ?) And as a longtime fan of Urban Decay I was beyond excited when I heard that Urban Decay has inked its first ever celebrity designer collaboration, a limited-edition collection with Gwen Stefani. Stefani is no stranger to Urban Decay and its parent L’Oréal — she served as a spokeswoman for L’Oréal and is a longtime fan of Urban Decay’s creator, Wende Zomnir. Stefani and Zomnir, who met when Stefani’s group No Doubt and Urban Decay were emerging, admired each other’s spirit for “making waves,” in their respective industries.
“When Urban Decay came to me to collaborate, I immediately thought it was a perfect match,” stated Stefani, adding she has always loved makeup and using it to express herself. “The way they’ve built their company is very similar to my aesthetic approach. It is my war paint,” said “The Voice” judge, adding she had hands-on guidance in creating the line called UD/Gwen Stefani. Zomnir spent hours at Stefani’s house talking makeup and determining the exact shades, formulations and packaging. “We’ve always been such huge fans of Gwen’s work over at UD,” Zomnir said. “We’ve wanted to make this project happen for years and finally it was the right time.”
Urban Decay has a thing for strong, independent women. So it should come as no surprise that: A) they’re big fans of Gwen Stefani and B) they’ve been dying to collaborate with her for years. The limited-edition UD / Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette is a true creative partnership and design collaboration. They carefully crafted each product, creating the exact shades Gwen always wished she had in her collection. In the end, they loaded a palette with her 15 must-have shades of eyeshadow (12 new shades, and 3 classic UD shades Gwen can’t live without.) With an insane range of neutrals and a few jewel tones to mix things up, this is Gwen’s go-to kit to achieve her most iconic looks.
I can attest that each shade is very pigmented and all apply very smoothly! The nudes in this palette, especially the second row, are just perfect to wear alone or as a base for a bolder color like Danger or Harajuku. And if you’re looking to create a sultry smoky eye, try Blackout or Serious. With an array of nudes and bold shades, there’s no limit to the many looks you can create to bring out your inner rock star!
Stefani also partnered with Urban Decay earlier this year to bring awareness to Urban Decay’s global initiative to empower women called Ultraviolet Edge.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…Urban Decay announced that Gwen is introducing a collection of lipcolors! My favorite has be Ex-Girlfriend, which is a pretty nude shade. The lipsticks, $18, are very creamy and last all day! Lipliners are $20.
