Review, Swatches: NARS Cosmetics Andy Warhol - Makeup Eye Palettes in Flowers Number 1, 3, Self Portrait 2

Confession: One of my friends helped me Feng Shui my apartment a bit; I needed red on my “Fame” wall. Right then and there I knew what I would put up: four portraits from my 1987 Andy Warhol calendar! So, naturally, when I heard all the buzz around the Nars and Warhol Foundation’s collaboration, my beauty adrenaline went into overdrive.

It’s like my note cards or boxes from the late great makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin — I didn’t want to touch these stunners, but I knew I had to share with you the beauty of the colors, hoping that the overall ‘Pop Art’ design will stay intact. You know me by now, I would do almost anything for our loyal readers and if that means diving into Flowers Number 1, Flowers Number 3 and Self Portrait 2, so be it.

The collection will be split in two parts: one, a Sephora exclusive that launches October 1st and a separate lineup for both department and specialty stores will launch November 1st. Sephora’s collection is intended to be colorful and vibrant with Debbie Harry Cheek and Eye Palette ($65.00), an item that was inspired by the 1980’s portrait of Blondie’s lead singer. Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret ($55.00) will feature five new lip glosses packaged in a keepsake soup can container with Warhol’s lip print featuring in Silver Factory (aluminum), Drella (ultra-sheer hot pink), Chelsea Girls (innocent, flesh-toned beige), Blue Movie (pink sherbet) and Myths (rosy pink). Walk on the Wild Side ($39.00) is a gift set that will offer a Silver Factory Illuminator, an It Nail Polish in Black Violet and an Orgasm Larger Than Life Lip Gloss.

There are also three eye shadow palettes (all $55.00 each): Flowers 1, Flowers 2 and Flowers 3 that feature variations of Warhol’s painting, Flowers, 1965 — and also are comprised of all NEW shades. Each compact has a Warhol quote that François Nars chose to print on the inside mirror of each compact. I sampled two out of the three and I loved the variety of colors that the layers created. I was able to make all of the products from this collection work and not look overdone. Sometimes when you first look at a bright purple or yellow it is a bit intimidating, but then when swept with a gray or another smoky color, it all works!

Look for all of the products mentioned above October 1st at Sephora and Sephora.com. For the specialty and department store launch you will see three Self Portrait Eye Shadow Palettes and Self Portrait 2 (sampled above) appeared to what I deemed as “50 Shades of Gray” on Twitter but is truly comprised of black, white and silver. There will also be a Photo Booth Gift Set Nail Polish ($35.00), Beautiful Darling Gift Set ($49.00), Edie Gift Set ($75.00) and a Silver Factory Gift Set ($200.00) that will be available on November 1st at narscosmetics.com.
