Fired Up, a new line nail polish line being launched in September 2012 by Orly, is billed as, “a dynamic collection created to showcase inner power. High gloss shades mimic the inner workings of the human body, providing a natural explosion of color.”
I’m not convinced that these six shades ($8.50 each) mimic the inner workings of the human body (that sounds more like ‘hype’ to me), but the three colors I tried — Glow, a pale cream taupe; Smolder, a deep wine shimmer and Rapture, a creamy chocolate brown (pictured above) — were sophisticated and beautiful (other shades include Flare, a pale gold shimmer; Flicker, a rust chrome shimmer and Ignite, a red crème).
As I applied these polishes I was immediately impressed by the thick, rich formula and the excellent coverage they provided. I almost thought I could skip the second coat, though in the end I applied it because I wanted the color to last. But the polish was thick enough to look good even with a single coat. As I mentioned above, the palette is luscious. The brown was expensive and classy looking; the wine had a subtle sheen and the taupe cream was an unusual and elegant choice for day.
All Orly nail lacquers including the Fired Up Collection are free of DBP, toluene and all traces of formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin. Can’t argue with that! And I loved the handy (and ever so slightly squishy) gripper cap that made opening the bottle just that much easier. All in all, these are terrific, well-priced polishes that combine great colors with longevity. You can find out more about the shades at www.orlybeauty.com.
