I am a nude and neutrals eyeshadow lover, and have quite a collection of such colors. But, I was very excited to get my hands on the NEW Smashbox Full Exposure palette. This palette was designed to work well with every eye shape so that you could enhance your features for a show-stopping look.
The Full Exposure Palette comes with 14 must-have neutral shades in matte and shimmer textures. The top row includes the shimmery shades, the bottom — the satiny-soft mattes. I think that it’s essential in any makeup palette to have shades that not only compliment each other, but that a palette also include a great range of mattes to assist with blending and transition. This palette definitely includes those, which makes applying your makeup quite effortless.
The palette comes with a double-sided brush, which allows you to both apply and blend your colors to create the perfect look: the fluffy side to blend out your matte or transition shades, as well as harsh lines, and your dome-shaped side to apply your lid color or highlight shade. Also included is an eye shape chart that assists with you getting an awesome look. It identifies 6 eye shapes and a list of created how-to’s for each of them.
The shimmer shades are very nice for an all-over-the-lid application or to apply a little pop of color. As much as I do love them, they do have micro-glitter shimmer through out most of them, so be sure to use patting motions when applying to your lid, and pack the color on rather than sweep, this will allow you to keep the glitter on your lid and not have it on your cheek. Another suggestion would be to use the top row of colors over a sticky base so that the colors adhere well with minimal fallout.
The mattes are smooth and blend so nicely. I have been enjoying using them for all over the lid, as well as contour and crease shades for smoky and everyday looks. Both rows of shadows are very pigmented and have great lasting power over a base/primer. The matte shades last fairly long without primer, but I always suggest that a primer is used with any shadow for some lasting power and to keep them from creasing.
This palette is great for travel. The packaging is sturdy and well-made. I’ve dropped it several times without anything breaking, cracking or falling apart. It also has a fairly strong magnetic closure, which helps in keeping everything secure. Since the palette comes with dual-ended brush (shader and blender), you have the brush you need for applying on the go.
Also included is a well-sized mirror that allows you to apply your makeup on the go and while traveling. I also like the sleekness of it – the black palette with the holographic Smashbox logo is super-cool. There is one thing I wish this palette did have though is names for the shadows. Since I like to explain what colors I used on my eyes, it’s always easiest to refer to them by name, which I can’t do with this specific palette as the shadows are nameless. Nameless but well worth it!
