Ever since I saw the interactive Clinique display in my local Macy’s department store way back when, I was hooked on this brand that adopted a scientific rather than romantic approach to skin care and beauty. I recall their tri-part system of cleanser-toner-moisturizer fondly, and still think that the pale yellow Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is an excellent product. So I was eager to catch up with the brand and see what new products they had to offer.
First up was CLINIQUE Smart Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Custom-Repair Moisturizer, $54. This is billed as a moisturizer for dry combination skin types, and it is said, “to help visibly smooth lines and wrinkles, brighten, and strengthen skin’s moisture barrier.”
More specifically, Smart Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Custom-Repair Moisturizer “provides targeted repair as needed, where needed to address each person’s unique concerns.” It also delivers essential defense against UV rays with broad-spectrum protection—a critical first step in preventing against damage. The oil-free formula claims to “plump skin with moisture, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and brighten for a fresh, firm, and radiant complexion.”
I used this product every morning for about two weeks. I found it lived up to its claims of moisturizing and brightening, though I did not notice any significant change in the fine line and wrinkle department. Also, much as I liked the fresh scent, pale, almost pink color and shea-butter infused texture, I did wish the SPF factor had been a little higher—I like a product with an SPF of at least 30. So while it is a good, solid productive, I see a little room for improvement in this area.
The second step in this program is Clinique Smart Night Custom-Repair Moisturizer, $57.00, smart nighttime moisturizer, which is said to “immediately plump skin 75% and work all night to visibly smooth lines and wrinkles, even skin tone and lift.” The oil free, smart hydration technology helps skin attract and retain moisture. I used this nightly for about two weeks and found the fresh-scented white cream to do an excellent job in moisturizing and plumping my skin. No real change in terms of lines and wrinkles, but the product absorbed well and left my face feeling refreshed and recharged.
Clinique Smart Treatment Oil, $44, is a light, luxe smoothing face oil contains a triple antioxidant blend that nurtures skin’s capacity for repair. It is said to “strengthen skin’s moisture barrier,” and “deliver targeted repair as needed, where needed.” It is suitable for all skin types.
I used the oil twice daily, sometimes under the Broad Spectrum Crème during the day, and sometimes under the moisturizer at night. Both alone and in concert with other products, I loved it. I am a big fan of oils and serums, especially in the winter, and this one really delivered. It absorbed quickly and left my skin dewy soft and supple. Adding it to my daily/nightly line.
