These cooling Botanico Eye Compresses ($52.00) are meant to provide a quick pick-me-up for tired eyes. Tea leaf, gold seal and witch hazel contain anti-inflammatory extracts that are said to “minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles;” euphrasia, a botanical skin clarifier, to “refresh and revitalize the entire eye area” and Acqua di Vita Complex, to soothe and restore.

I used these compresses late in the day — when I was feeling tired, yet was still facing an evening out — and I wanted to look my best. So, I laid down, closed my eyes and put a compress over each eye. For the next ten minutes, I let myself be carried away by the fresh scent that put me in mind of an early morning walk in the Tuscan countryside. I can’t say I noticed any change in the line/wrinkle department afterwards, but my eye area — and hence whole face — did look and feel refreshed!

Still, given the hefty pricetag, I would not categorize these pads as a must-have. Finally, I’m happy to report that Borghese products are not tested on animals.
