Review, Photos: Sisley All Day All Year Essential Day Care Soin Essentiel De Jour - Anti-Aging Shield Protection

The All Day All Year Essential Day Care Soin Essentiel De Jour ($398.00) does not have a conventional SPF number. Instead, Sisley claims that it “behaves like a protective bubble against outside aggressions — largely responsible for skin aging — with three levels of defense forming a comprehensive anti-aging shield.” Sounds like some serious protection going on. More specifically, it contains an anti-UVA and UVB shield, which blocks out 90% of UVB and UVA rays by means of complex micro-encapsulated filters which — without penetrating the skin — safely protects it for 8 hours.

It also contains an anti-free radical/anti-stress shield. The joint use of apple skin extract (anti-free radical) and white willow extract (which stimulates the production of anti-stress proteins), helps to protect the cells against environment-induced stress. Finally, phytoceramide and glycoprotein-rich rice and sesame extracts are said to “help… consolidate the intercellular cement, thus strengthening the epidermis’ barrier function and reinforcing its cellular cohesiveness.”

A full list of active ingredients:

encapsulated UVA and UVB filters
shea butter
juniper
marjoram (oil)
sage (Oil)
hazelnut
apple
rice
sage
white willow
sesame
olive

and vitamin E

Sisley recommends applying the product daily to cleansed skin, which I did faithfully for the recommended four weeks. I liked the ease of application; the product was creamy without being overly thick or pasty — a common downside to most sun protection products. And I found that I did not need to use a moisturizer underneath; it was fluid enough to absorb into the skin, and I was able to apply my foundation, blush and powder directly over it. Let’s hear it for streamlining the morning routine!

But, Sisley also claims that in four weeks, “the skin looks visibly younger.” This is a strong claim and I cannot say with any certainty that it was accurate. I did not notice an appreciable difference in my skin tone after the twenty-eight days of use, and while I liked the product and appreciated its good qualities, I don’t believe the price tag of $398.00 is justified by the performance.
