I received this product sample from Murad right before I was leaving for my long vacation to India. As you all know, at this time of the year, India receives extreme tropical heat and I’ve been voyaging all over for trips, family weddings and so on — basically over-tanning my face. I was so glad I got this product to save my face in such a hectic summer.
After days of tanning, I started using Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum ($60.00). It is so light — a transparent liquid serum that just naturally glides onto your face. It instantly absorbs into your skin giving you a moisturized face, although feeling as if you haven’t applied anything at all.
See, now you can guess how lightweight it is! Perfect for Indian summers (hot and humid). I used it at the end of the day after cleansing and toning my face. You can always follow it up with Murad moisturizer. One tip ladies: never use a skin lightening product during daytime as its compounds (specially AHAs) are sensitive to sunlight.

Now, let’s get into the science part of the product. Its active ingredient is 2% hydroquinone, which is the best known whitening agent that fades dark spots, age spots and freckles. I know some of you ladies must be skeptical about the side effects of this compound, but don’t worry: at 2% it is perfectly safe and works wonders on your skin.
Anything over 10% hydroquinone is considered to be used under doctor’s advice. Hydroquinone is generally combined with an AHA to increase its penetration and effectiveness. In this case, it is combined with glycolic acid that exfoliates dead skin cells. Another major compound is hexapeptide-2 which is an advanced skin lightening peptide that complements hydroquinone and prevents future damage.
