School for your Skin: Dermalogica Academy Opens

Usually going to a bar doesn’t bode well for your skin, what with the dehydration and minor mishaps sometimes caused by imbibing the wares, but Dermalogica’s Skin Bar takes a page from public houses to make the process of shopping for skin care products easier. At any of the brand’s Skin Bars around the world, the savvy shopper can recline in a chair while a licensed skin therapist dispenses individual samples of cleanser, toner, and treatments – a nice change from wandering around a department store beauty arcade. Even better, the therapists can dispense another of Dermalogica’s signature services, the Face Mapping Skin Analysis, a free assessment of the entire face and neck area.

As brand, Dermalogica has always had post-graduate centers for estheticians to continue learning about the best and newest ways to better the skin, but now the company has opened its first undergraduate center in New York City, the Dermalogica Academy. Classes of 12 or less will have the chance to complete an intensive course to become certified as skin therapists. The Academy, located in Chelsea in New York, will offer a traditional Skin Bar as well as Dermalogica treatments at a significantly reduced rate. When you’re beset with blemishes but not with cash, it’s a nice to know that a beautiful, eco-friendly training facility in a trendy neighborhood is there to help you deal with your skin problems.
