MAC 2010 Spring Colour Forecast Collection
February 6th, 2010Spring is in the air with MAC’s Spring Colour Forecast, which center on four specific color stories: coral, pink/lavender, yellow/gold, plum/burgundy.
The idea is to keep it monochromatic or blend, mix and mingle…as a true artist would do.
In the “pink” color family, the products remind me of candy land with its pink bubblegum, Barbie and roses inspired look. The products in this collection include:
Mascara Plush Lash Plushback Noir ($15.50)
Lipstick in Phlox, Bubblegum, Laugh a Lot, Pink Burst Rose ($16.50)
Lipglass in Culture Clash, Hush Hush Rose, Pearl, Electric Fuschia ($16.50)
Eyeshadow in Rosy Outlook, Very Violet Mauve, Lala, Da Bling Rose ($17.50)
Crush Metal Pigments in Pale Pink Frost, Light Lilac Frost, Mid Tone Rose Frost, Dark Purple ($38.50)
Nail Lacquer in Galore Pink ($14.50)
Creations Perfume: a lingeringly floral scent that is both foxy as Catherine Zeta Jones in Chicago and bursting into a flowery bouquet of freesia, black violet, and magnolia petals ($30)
In the coral family collection, we have:
MAC & Milk Collection Debuts in February 2010
February 4th, 2010This limited edition, online ONLY collection features products that MAC makeup artists love and use backstage – and arrives just in time for New York Fashion Week to give us its swan song at the Bryant Park tents.
The delicious offerings encompass Skincare, Eye, Mascara, Face, Lip products and beauty tools as well. Take a look!
Strobe Cream ($29.50):
When you think of strobe, you think of flashing spotlight. That flawless sexy, Scar-Jo perfect skin has to be attributable to something, right? (fine, we know about genes…we’re talking about product here!).
This cream brightens and clarifies with sparkling particles and antioxidants, thereby enhancing the effect of light on the skin.
Fast Response Eye Cream ($30.00):
No model would be cat-walk worthy with eyes as puffy as clouds. This is a caffeinated cream that de-puffs, firms, soothes and softens the delicate under eye area.
Fix + ($18.00):
Guest Blogger Afrobella Tells Us Some of Her Favorite Cream Blushes
February 4th, 2010This weeks guest blogger post comes from Patrice Grell Yursik, who is the creator of beauty, lifestyle and culture blog Afrobella.com. You can also read her AOL Black Voices hair blog at BVHairTalk.com, and she contributes as a travel writer to BlackAtlas.com.
Once upon a time, not long ago – I was afraid of blush. Back in 2006, I blogged about that fear, describing blush as “a dangerous cosmetic…way too easy to overdo.”
I still believe that less is certainly more when it comes to blush. I still am VERY wary of stepping foot out the house, looking like I’ve been shot by Homer Simpson’s makeup gun.
But over time, and through quite a bit of trial and error, I’ve learned what kinds and colors of blush best compliment my skin tone. And now I can’t quite imagine leaving the house without some blush on!
I do enjoy powder blush, but there’s something magical about cream blush. I have very full cheeks, and a good cream blush brings out a natural glow to my smile that is noticeable. I usually apply just a little with my fingers, and I apply it over my moisturizer and foundation.
Here are my current faves!
Lauren Conrad at Avon Mark’s M Powerment Panel Dishes Her Favorite Beauty Products
February 2nd, 2010Who doesn’t know and heart The Hills (okay, minus Speidi, I totally loved the show and secretly watched it when my other nerdy friends weren’t looking).
This evening I got to meet Lauren Conrad in person as she talked about her latest involvement with Avon’s Mark division: a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that is part of the m.powerment by mark campaign that is designed to raise awareness of dating abuse and partner violence.
Lauren talked about her second book that launches TODAY and her second “Have a Heart” Bracelet for mark whose net proceeds will benefit the fund (which has already raised $400,000!). Heck, she even flew all the way from California the day after her birthday to be at the event.
It was touching to hear that one in four teenage women in America are subject to domestic and dating abuse. We heart this necklace and bracelet and urge you to purchase it if your pocketbook permits. Take a look at the fund and the PSA.
Lauren also dished on her fave beauty products, ladies! Take a look at this You Tube video (okay, we admit it’s a little grainy and we promise to upgrade our gear in time for Fashion Week).

The Best of the 2010 Grammy Beauty Looks: Four Trends We Saw
February 1st, 2010A tribute to MJ, Taylor’s Swift’s curls taking a life of their own, and Lady Gaga’s beyond cheetah fierce outfits were some of the moments we remembered from the 2010 Grammy Awards.
Although we were upset about Gaga not getting Album of the Year (let’s discuss that later, under separate cover), there’s no question that some of the trends we noticed on the red carpet are here to stay.
BEAUTY TREND #1: SHIMMERY EYESHADOW, STATEMENT HAIR COLOR, MILE-LONG LASHES
Rihanna’s lashes looked gorgeous, but looked faux. But we certainly wouldn’t mind walking around with these Venus Flytrap eyelashes, that’s for sure. Her shimmery eye shadows are stunning along with her flawlessly bronzed face that glowed with a touch of blusher.
Look at how shimmery and Avatar-like her lids are compared to her makeup in 2009? We’re loving the new orange-coppery hair color in 2010 too.
Rihanna’s hair color and style is almost EXACTLY like the color Blige wore on her hair at the red carpet – makes you wonder if they had the same stylists.
BEAUTY TREND #2: FUSCHIA/PINK LIPS
We were so in love with Katy Perry last evening, and partially because of her bright, wide eyes but also her luscious, kissable lips.
52nd Annual Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty Trends and Styles
January 31st, 2010Silver Screen and TV stars had their moment to shine at the Golden Globes. Now everyone’s favorite musicians will get their turn at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. We asked beauty gurus what they predict the star’s beauty looks will be tonight. Check out their forecast below:
- Taylor Swift at the CMA awards
Laurent Dufourg, celebrity stylist and owner of the famed Privé Salons expects the looks at the Grammy’s to be remarkably different than those seen at the Golden Globes. “The Grammy’s are very rock and roll, so there is less of the glamorous up-do’s we see at the Golden Globes and more edgy styles.” He also anticipates that big curls and texture – which are becoming a trend courtesy of country favorites Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift - will also be in view. Long hair, messy – edgy looks and shaggy, fun looks are also on his radar.
Hair and make up artist Trisha Nerney, foresees tonight’s makeup looks as “dark and dramatic to offset the simplicity of the hair.” Hair will be “sleek and slicked back, worn in a low ponytail. Stars will get base color glosses to bring out shine when the paparazzi shoot the cameras and the light hits the hair. This plus lighter highlights around the face will make the stars glow.”
Allan Avendano, hair & makeup artist with the Margaret Maldonado Agency anticipates “We will see lots of glowing skin, and many faces with sexy smokey eyes along with loose modern updos or sexy flowing locks. Hollywood vintage glamour will also make an appearance with red lips, full lashes and vintage hairstyles.”
Most stars prep pre-party with spa treatments to make their skin camera ready. Presenter and new artist Ke$ha’s prepped for glowing skin with the Purigenex micro-collagen mask from RoxSpa in Beverly Hills. The treatment uses topical collagen to penetrate the skin. Kelley West, RoxSpa Director told us that “Purigenex improves the tone and texture of the skin, plumps fine lines, lightens hyperpigmentation, helps improve acne scarring and gives the patient an overall youthful appearance. For an instant and radiant glow, women scheduled to walk the red carpet often apply the mask the night before, or even the day of, a special event.”
Check out the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards tonight and let us know which looks blew you away.
