1) When it comes to applying makeup to certain eye shapes, what are the number one rules for each shape?

Deep-set eyes: Keep the eyelids light in color

Close-set eyes: Keep your lightest color on the inside of the eyes, deepest color to the outside

Prominent eyelids: Keep your shadow color neutral, avoiding noticeable eyeliner

“Droopy” eyes (that slant down at the outside corners): Keep light color to the very outside of the eye on the lid and under the bottom lashes

Hooded eyes (happens more as we age): Use the lightest color from where the iris of the eye is, all the way to the arch of the brow; it shifts the attention upwards rather than across.

Almond-shaped eyes: The most exotic eye shape. Use liner — winged, cat eye — extended past the outside corner of the eye; can also use on the inside rim of the eye on the waterline

Deep-set eyes: Keep lighter color on the lid. Use a smudged liner close to the lash line

Close-set eyes: Avoid using liner in the inside 1/3 of the eye and let it get thicker as you move to the outside. extending it past the eye. Do all you can to focus the attention away from the center of the face. Think of using your shadows in the same way.

Prominent eyelids: Keep your deepest color close to the lashes in a smudged line and use neutral colors on the lids. Try using some bright color underneath the bottom lashes, especially as they are so on trend right now.

Droopy eyes: Stop your eyeliner before the outside corner or better yet, wing it up! Also, use liner or shadow at the outside corners of the bottom lashes, extending up and out.

Hooded eyes: Bring eyeshadow color above the crease to create more shape to the eye, highlighter under the brow bone and use the trick mentioned above of shooting a light color up at an angle — it shifts the way one sees the eye.

Almond-shaped eyes: Use liner from the inside corner past the outside. Upper lids and lower lids, inside rim

Wide-set eyes: Rules don’t apply

3) Should every eye shape apply eyeliner to the inner rim?

“If your eyes are small, often the case with hooded eyes, skip liner on the inside rim (waterline), unless it is a bright color.”

4) Which products work best for certain eye shapes?

“Powder shadows work best on deep-set eyes, droopy eyes and hooded eyes, as they are less likely to crease. Liquid liner or liner gels are best on all eye shapes, except prominent eyes, because of their staying power. On most eye shapes however, I usually use a liner pencil or deep shadow color to soften the line.”

5) What type of look can every eye shape pull off?

Every eye can pull off bright color, which is so popular right now. Whether you make a bold statement by using a lot of color on the lid, or simply open small eyes and brighten eyes, with turquoise liner in the inside rim or line your eyes in amethyst, think color!
