(Review) Best Products for Dry Hair: Leonor Greyl "Huile de Palme"; Rene Furterer "Karite" Line

Dry hair is just about as fun as dry skin — and if you’re one of those ladies who think you’ve tried several solutions in the beauty book, why not give these gems a try? These two are completely different brands with a different look and feel; while the price points are roughly the same, the look and feel is completely different. But the bottom line? They are both really effective in your battle against dry hair, so take your pick of one or the other (or both, should you decide to mix and match). We certainly swear by them.

A Luxurious Pre-Shampoo: Leonor Greyl’s Huile de Palme

This highly aromatic oil is a pre-shampoo oil and a total journey and feast for the senses. Massage this into your scalp and you’ll be completely relaxed. This detangles your hair, softens it, and truly moisturizes every strand — down to the tip. Made with plenty of natural oils, this product should be left on the scalp and hair for at least ten minutes. It also bears the Eco Cert label so consumers can be assured of the quality of ingredients. For $49, I think this is a great purchase for those who want an indulgent aromatherapy for dry hair to complement their shampoo/ conditioner routine. There is another Huile de Palme for the face, and that too is priced at $49. The oil prolongs the life of your color as well.

The simple square and sleek packaging gives it an air of complete understated elegance, just like an upscale perfume bottle.

A Winning Hair Masque: Rene Furterer’s new KARITE Range

Rene Furtere Karite Shampoo and Mask Line

At a recent launch event for Rene Furterer’s Karite line (the complete products hits shelves November 2011), we were led through a journey of exquisite cheese and champagne hosted by the Artisanal Cheese Company in New York. The focus was on repairing your hair from daily wear and tear, and also the effects of blow drying. It was a spotlight on the nourishing effects of shea butter, the key ingredient of the Karite line.

The new products serve to nourish dry hair with actives and innovative ingredients including Shea (Karite), Phospholipids and the brand’s exclusive Cimentrio. There’s an aromatherapy element to this line and you can experience this as you massage the masque into your hair: notes of petitgrain, orange, lemon laurel, neroli, coriander, patchouli and musk.

The new Intense Nourishing Oil ($36) is a pre-shampoo treatment that is super easy to spray and use. I love the way the actives nourish the hair and as I mentioned before, this product is definitely aromatherapy. The best way to use it is 1-2 times per week before shampooing…leave it on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse.

The Intense Nourishing Shampoo ($23) doesn’t overwhelm –it’s soft and gentle as a spring day. But at the same time, you can feel your hair is superbly moisturized as you apply this. There’s also Vitamin E , A and D in this shampoo.

For me the star product in this collection is the Intense Nourishing Mask ($46). If you were to go out and buy one product from the new items, get this because this mask goes the extra mile to protect your hair from lipid deficiency. Plus, it’s a real indulgence, especially at the end of a long day. Leave it on after shampooing for 2-5 minutes, comb hair and rinse well. Your hair will have noticeable moisture and shine…no question!
