Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet collaborated with Sebastian Professional sponsors for the third consecutive time and asked Sebastian Professional lead stylist Anthony Cole to create a swept-back, romantic look using an edgier styled chignon. It was loosely constructed as opposed to super-sleek and tight. The inspiration was all about “coquette cool” entwined with intricate textures of rich bouclé, jacquard embroidery and lush furs — all romanticized into a sultry, romantic yet edgy look.
Anthony Cole said that women at home could easily create this look by following these steps:
– Blow-dry the hair smooth using a large round brush. Once fully dry, create a middle part and pull into a ponytail.
– Twist the ponytail around the base and pin to secure. Spray with Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce hairspray for shape and hold.
– Be sure to keep the hair loose in the front so the hairline does not show. Then, pull pieces loosely from under each side to frame the face.
– Detail pieces of the chignon with Sebastian Professional Craft Clay for a matte hold.
– Once in shape, lightly spray Sebastian Professional Trilliant over the finished look for a touch of shimmer and shine.
Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics explained that her look came from an idea based on a dinner party that takes place in a haunted house, with all guests in attendance having a bold, super intense eye with a “daring” lip. Sarah wanted the models’ skin to look healthy and dewy as the bold eyes and lips took center stage. Brows were looking natural and the Stila Smudge Crayon Waterproof Eye Primer + Shadow + Liner in Black was placed all over the lid and lower lash line in a very precise manner.
No blending needed, just a deep, dark, intense upper and lower lid to really accentuate the epitome of a smoky eye. Kayal Eye Liner in Onyx was used to line the inner rims of the eyes. The lips were done in two palettes: one being a deep merlot color called Aria, while other models had Passionfruit Crush Lip and Cheek Stain on their lips.
Nothing was placed on the cheeks and the face was primed with the Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm. Stay All Day Waterproof Volumizing Mascara was applied to both upper and lower lashes and the brows were treated with the Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color.
Nail strips were provided by Sephora and put on each model by Sara Biria. Black and gold glitter were on some models while others had a silver metallic. The Sephora by OPI Trend Tips can be found at the nail bars in individual stores; they were seen as a type of texture, similar to some of the fabrics used in the collection. If you know me, you would know that I have been wearing nail polish strips for the past year, and, like Sara, appreciate their no-dry time and easy-to-use application. They can be easily removed with nail polish remover and you can change them as often as you’d like within minutes once you get the hang of it.
This was a dream come true for me. I have known Anthony Cole for years but did not expect to see him so overwhelmed with love for his craft. I have been following Sarah Lucero via Twitter and Facebook and was delighted to finally meet the über-talent in person. Nail strips at a fashion show, too? Well, it was a surreal and wonderful experience and all of the three aspects blended together to make a cocktail that every fashionista or beautynista could appreciate.
