Believe it or not, blue mascara is a hot beauty trend seen recently on everyone from top models to celebs. Beauty is supposed to be fun, right? So why not experiment with this pop of color on your lashes. Try a deep cobalt blue to really make a statement or rich navy for a more subtle take on the trend. We asked makeup artist Alison Raffaele, for tips on how you can get this look.

Q: What is your opinion on the blue mascara trend?
A: Honestly, human beings’ features don’t evolve as quickly as trends (thank God!) so trends that are truly beautiful (beauty standards are pretty consistent, too) cycle through every couple of years. Blue mascara is no different. The deeper the shade, the easier to wear, the lighter, the more avant-garde. As a makeup artist, my professional opinion is if you like it, wear it!
Q: Does skin tone matter? Can women with fair skin and dark skin wear this look?
It’s not so much of a skin tone issue; the question is how natural vs. dramatic of an effect you are looking for. On dark skin tones, the lighter the more dramatic. On light skin tones, the brighter, the more dramatic.
