For girly girls that came of age in the late ’90s, beauty was defined by teen mags like All About You, CosmoGIRL, and YM. We didn’t have YouTube gurus to show us how to use eyeliner and under eye concealer, and I spent hours locked in my room with stacks of magazines and Britney Spears blaring on my boombox, trying to draw a straight line with frosty liquid liner.
Jane Cosmetics Multi-Colored Cheek/Bronzing Baked Powder, pH Adjusting, Stain Gloss, Liquid Eyeliner, Eyeshadows
I was obsessed with reading about new ways to twist my hair with butterfly clips and new flavors of Candy Kisses lip balm. Jane Cosmetics were an absolute staple of every beauty spread, along with Hard Candy technicolor eyeliner and sparkly Stila eye shadows.
Jane seemed to disappear for a while (a huge blow to my teen self when I ran out of my favorite lilac shimmer shadow, the only color cool enough to wear with my platform Skechers), but the line is now back and widely available at places like Ulta. #FlashbackFriday diehards should know that you can now pick up NEW! Jane Satin Split Stick, a familiar looking bullet with two shades in one! The formula is all new, infused with vitamin E and oils so that both sides of the bullet blend together seamlessly.
The luminous blush and bronzer duo and Shimmering Suede Shadow Trios are also updated with extra soft pigments and spherical mica. The Sun-Kissed Coral Blushing Bronze Duo I tried was a little dark for my vampire-white complexion, but tanner girls will love the super-pigmented formula for contouring and building an all-over glow. I preferred the shadow trio in Berry Bliss, sweeping the pale pink all over my lid from lash line to brow bone, dusting the medium shade in my crease, and using the dark brown shade as top and bottom liner.
Finish off with black mascara for daytime, or have a full-on ’90s alterna chick moment with the Crushed Velvet Volumizing Mascara in Marvelous Merlot or Cobalt Crush. Feeling like you’re the most popular babe in a late ’90s high school rom-com should be enough to pick up a few Jane products. (Jane Cosmetics Fall 2014 Collection will be available beginning October 2014 at JaneCosmetics.com and Kohls.com.)
The brand also operates on a Buy-one, Give-one model, donating one equal beauty product to a local woman’s shelter with every purchase.
