The new formula in Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence, $45.00, combines science and nature to help bring back skin’s healthy glow. According to Kiehl’s, this advanced liquid concentrate can harness the power of Iris Florentina Root Extract to quickly and deeply penetrate the skin, boosting radiance, reducing the appearance of fine lines, and improving dullness.

The multi-action treatment contains three key ingredients:

  • Lipo Hydroxy Acid (LHA) activates skin’s natural exfoliation process to remove dull, dead skin cells on the skin’s outer layers, and stimulate cell renewal to optimize penetration of this formula and any skincare products one uses after the essence.
  • Iris Florentina Root Extract is known for its deeply nourishing and anti-aging benefits to the skin, including the preservation of skin’s integrity. The formula has the ability to increase deeper surface level hydration and improve barrier function to lock in skin’s moisture for up to 24 hours post-application.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate instantly hydrates to replenish skin and smooth fine lines.

The product is meant to be used in conjunction with other products (Kiehl’s or otherwise) to improve the effectiveness of everything you put on your skin.

After I cleansed my face at night, I put a few drops in the palm of my hands and pressed the serum into my skin; this is supposed to ensure the quick penetration of the ingredients. Then I used a regular night crème over it. The product has a thin liquid consistency and absorbed very well. I also loved the fresh, floral fragrance, of the iris extract. My skin felt very good in the morning—soft and fresh—though even after a week of use, I did not notice any changes in terms of lines or wrinkles. Still, this is an interesting concept and I will continue using it with other crèmes and serums. I like the idea of a product that can boost the powers of other products and make them more effective.
