VOTE FOR THE BEST MAKEUP AND SKINCARE PRODUCTS:
Recently, 2,400 beauty industry insiders gathered to experience the latest pioneering beauty products when the Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Insider Awards season kicks off with the sold-out Product Demonstration. Of the record-breaking 816 products that are entered into the annual awards, 703 have opted to demonstrate at the event, which CEW members will have the opportunity to test before voting for their favorite products.
Of the 37 total award categories, CEW members vote to select the finalists in 33 of the categories, which range from Turn Back Time (anti-aging skincare), to All Eyes on Me (eye makeup) and It Makes Scents (women’s fragrance). The lucky finalists will be announced live on Twitter on Thursday, March 24. CEW’s Board of Governors and select industry experts will then vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the Beauty Awards Luncheon May 13 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Winners will be judged based on innovation, delivery system and packaging.
“Winning a CEW Beauty Insider Award is one of the highest honors in the beauty industry, which is why 429 brands are competing this year – the highest in the history of the Beauty Awards,” says Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW. “The Awards act as a guide for consumers by recognizing the top beauty products and innovations of the year.”
2016 Highlights
Indies: “Indie brands are changing the landscape of the beauty industry at an accelerated rate and it’s important to CEW that we support these brands throughout their journey. We’re thrilled that for over a decade now CEW’s Beauty Awards have celebrated the creativity, originality and entrepreneurial spirit of small, independent beauty companies,” said Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW.
CEW will highlight the importance of trends in the niche market by making the Indie Brand category a key focus of the Product Demonstration. Forty-three brands entered into the Indie category this year, a 30 percent increase from last year.
“The record level of Indie Brand entries for 2016 represent a true testament as to the vitality of the beauty industry,” said Shaun Westfall, Managing Director at Piper Jaffray, sponsor of the Indie Brand Beauty Award for the second year. “Through digital and social media, brands and passionate founders have an ability to connect like never before directly with their consumers. This ability to reach consumers with their stories is empowering a new era of entrepreneurs and brand builders that will continue to change the face of the industry.”
Winner of the Indie Brand Beauty Award will also receive a complimentary booth from Cosmoprof North America at their annual show in Las Vegas, being held July 24-26. The booth, valued at $8,000, includes marketing, a fully furnished lounge space and guaranteed meetings with the retail buyers attending the event.
Iconic Consumers’ Choice: In 2016, CEW is partnering with Meredith Corporation to launch the Iconic Consumers’ Choice Beauty Award; opening the vote to consumers for the first time. On March 24 Meredith will host a special awards breakfast to announce the Iconic Beauty Award Finalists, and from those finalists, consumers will be invited to vote on Meredith’s digital platforms for their favorite mass and prestige iconic beauty products. Two Iconic Consumers’ Choice Award winners (one in mass and one in prestige) will be announced at CEW’s Beauty Award Luncheon in May.
(H)Appy Beauty: Access to beauty at our fingertips has never been easier. To recognize this important shift, CEW has launched the Best Beauty App category, recognizing one mobile beauty app that simplifies the beauty category for users.
Earth Loving: Finally, CEW will announce the Eco Award category finalists the week of March 14. The CEW Eco Beauty Award recognizes a brand that has moved further toward the goal of sustainability. The award, sponsored by Givaudan, was established to encourage taking steps towards sustainability within the beauty industry.
The 2016 CEW Beauty Awards Product Demonstration is sponsored by Givaudan, QVC, ULTA Beauty, Perfect Corp, DermStore, Beauty Inc, Arcade Beauty, Costco Wholesale, Birchbox, Conair + Scunci, Piper Jaffray & Co., RPG, Mintel, Albéa, MaCher, Nielsen, Anisa International, Cosmoprof North America, Rpr Marketing Communications, ChemAid Laboratories, Inc., Verge Creative Group, Consultancy Media, KraftWorks, Suite K, PIMS New York Inc., Good Engine Media, WWD, Tonnie’s Minis, The NPD Group and Ernst & Young LLP.
