James Kaliardos was literally dancing backstage at Kimora Lee Simmons’ showing of Baby Phat’s Spring/ Summer 2010 collection, held at the Roseland Ballroom during Fashion Week.
And with good reason! Kaliardos delivered an exceptionally stunning, cat-eye inspired blue/black eye that was hard to miss unless you were legally blind.
This was a complicated look to whip up for the show, admits Kaliardos, who used MAC Cosmetics for the look. “It’s a Moroccan inspired eye, based on Kimora’s travels. ”
To achieve this look, Kaliardos used the Waveline Fluidline eye liner on the lid and made an elongated wing shape to create Moroccan drama. He also used this liner under the eyes as a base. He used Deep Truth Frost Eyeshadow and Fly-By-Blu Pearlglide eye liner in layers over the eyelids to add heavy wattage.
Blacktrack Fluidline was then applied to darken the crease. A Light Violet Crushed Metal Pigment (you’ll see this collection hit MAC counters early in 2010) was applied on the inner corners of the eye.
Then mascara in Blackdazzle Dazzlelash was swept on every eyelash. The lips had coral tint (Love Nectar Lustreglass), applied very sparingly, in very minimalist fashion.
The blush, a color called Joie de Vivre, lightly dusted each cheekbone.
Odile Gilbert, who did the hair for Moroccan Oil for Baby Phat, envisioned sexy, bouncy hair (think Kim Kardashian meets ScarJo) with curls and tendrils. She used the Moroccan Oil Hairspray, hair extensions where necessary, french braiding and Intense Curl Cream to get the look.
The nails, done by Creative Nail Design, used gold foil to create a very Minx-like opulent yet Liberace-glitzy finish. Very Kimora!
