With the fall season comes change! And if we got anything to do with it, you know we’re talking about some serious hair change! We caught up with one of our favorite beauty bloggers, Lianne Farbes, creator and editor of the beauty blog The Makeup Girl, to talk about her sew-in weave process.
Before: No weave
Since the summer, Lianne has been attending the Styles New York Salon to have her natural hair blend seamlessly into her new weave. Now that the summer is over, she’s taken it all out! Read on to see how the process was done, which products Lianne uses to get her hair in tip-top shape and how her weave protected her hair all summer long.

Why did you put a weave in? For protection?
LF: Yes. I usually get a keratin treatment every summer because my hair + humidity = HOT MESS! And I get MAJOR frizz.
Initially, I had wanted to try some kind of protective style to see if there was any difference in the heath and growth of my hair after a certain period of time. I pitched the idea to a celeb stylist I know ad she suggested a sew-in weave.
Did you specifically put it in during the summer season, or just coincidence?
LF: Yes, just for summer.
Hair sewn in
Specifically, how did it protect your hair?
LF: My hair was braided down flat under a net and the hair was sewn on top of that. So, from the beginning of May to the beginning of September the bulk of my hair was completely covered with no heat styling (aside from the small amount of hair left out at the crown, so everything blended in).
Was there anything special about the weave you had put in?
LF: I would say it has everything to do with the technique used and the quality of the hair. I used Indique Hair and my stylist, Gabrielle Corney, used a specific pattern: she braids the hair down, so that ensures it looks extremely natural by adding as little stress as possible to your hair.

LF: Gabrielle Corney from Styles New York Salon did, both installations and styling.
After: 1st installations in May
How long do you think you’ll keep it?
LF: It’s out now, I had it in from May until yesterday Editor’s Note: beginning of September>. I went to see Gabi once in late June to have it taken down and put back in, as you can only safely leave in a sew-in weave for 10-12 weeks at a time — MAX! (the hair will start to dread after that).

Will you need to do anything special to maintain it? What products do you use?
LF: I used regular styling products while I was caring for it. Particularly, Carol’s Daughter’s Monoi line. My hair always smells great after I use that line, and looks like it’s in top condition.

Weave is out!
