Go bold! That was the message designers emphasized during their Fall/Winter 2015 shows at this year’s NYFW. Everything from lips to eyes to brows were totally front and center.
Jeremy Scott can only be described as over-the-top or oh-so-cool. “The collection features a lot of nursery motifs and prints inspired by baby clothes so I thought it would make sense to transfer the girls into pop art dolls.” The large bold colorful shades over the eyes were created by MAC makeup artist Kabuki with MAC Pro Acrylic Paints in colors blue, orange, green, and pink. Definitely a bold statement!
Lead Artist James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics was inspired by “the idea of a delicate, refined beauty. The Swarovski crystal effect on the eye adds depth and shine to the lower lash and the glossy lip reflects the light.” On eyes he used Audacious Mascara, Right Side of Craving Blush, and Rue Bonaparte Larger Than Life Longwear Eyeliner. Lips were left nude by using Chelsea Girls Lip Gloss and Radiant Creamy Concealer. The overlook is beautiful and ethereal.
Swarovski crystals on your lashes, not your thing? No problem.
Jay Manuel and Marla Belt for Jay Manuel Beauty partnered with designer Bibhu Mohapatra for the Fall 2015 collection. Manuel states as the inspiration, “It’s as though she stepped out of a painting from the 1920’s but there’s a hint of modernity.” The skin was left looking flawless with a bottom-heavy charcoal smokey eye and nude lip.
Some designers went the opposite route and kept lips as the focal point. You can never go wrong with a red lip for fall, as done by NARS for Naeem Khan. James Boehmer for NARS Cosmetics left skin looking dewy and added to lips Mysterious Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, Mambo Eyeliner, and Jungle Red Lip Liner.
Dick Page, Shiseido Artistic Director, added a smudge of dark liner to the eyes of models at the KYE show and let the lips take center stage by mixing Lacquer Rouge in Drama and Lacquer Rouge in Sanguine and adding a bit of Lacquer Rouge in Drama to finish the lips.
For the Philip Lim show Lead Artist Francelle Daly for NARS Cosmetics went for a “utilitarian punk” look for the fall season. She used VIP Red Lipstick, a deep red that graced the lips of the Philip Lim models.
A slight deviation from the red lips, was a gorgeous purple shade at the Nanette Lepore show where makeup artist Grace Lee used Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Orchid Ecstasy. She wanted to add instant edginess to the overall look and was inspired by “the posh, rebel school girl.”
Whether you go for bold with your eyes or standout with a pretty pout, you will make a statement for the fall season.
