Nude nails, geometric nails, nails with bold pops of color and much more were on full display at the Spring /Summer 2016 NYFW shows.
Backstage at Creatures of the Wind and Tadashi Shoji, butter LONDON’s Global Colour Ambassador, Katie Jane Hughes, created fashion-forward nail looks that perfectly complimented the collections.
Simple yet bold, the nail look was inspired by the hippie meets punk vibe of the collection. Four high-shine nail colors were assigned to models based upon their look.
Get The Look:
- For white nails: apply two coats of Nail Lacquer in Cotton Buds.
- For blue nails: apply two coats of Nail Lacquer in Skive (NEW for Spring ’16).
- For black nails: apply two coats of Nail Lacquer in Union Jack Black.
- For yellow nails, apply one coat of Nail Lacquer in Cotton Buds, followed by two coats of Nail Lacquer in Cheeky Chops , below.
- Finish with one coat of Patent-Gel Topcoat for a thick, high-shine finish.
The collection at Tadashi was inspired by Tadashi’s own memories of Japan. The nail look incorporated pale colors and a soft ombré to reflect Tadashi’s “blooming nostalgia,” and “whispers of a Japanese Garden” inspiration.
Get The Look:
- Apply one coat of Nail Foundation to clean, dry nails.
- Using the Ombré Brush, dip the tip of the brush into Nail Lacquer in Cotton Buds, sweep the brush lightly from the top of the nail, beginning from a different angle on each nail.
- Repeat with Nail Lacquer in Muggins.
- Repeat with Nail Lacquer in Molly Coddled, below.
- Finish with one coat of Hardwear P.D. Quick Topcoat for a soft yet shiny finish.

Backstage at Nicole Miller’s Spring/Summer 2016 show, butter LONDON’s lead manicurist, Katie Jane Hughes, created a fashion-forward nail design that perfectly complemented the fun, edgy collection.
What Katie says: “I created this bold nail look to play off of the street art inspired clothing in the collection. Black nails and edgy details are going to be a trend for spring. Spring beauty this season isn’t about playing by the rules.”
The graphic, splatter-effect nail art featured a pop of color that mimics the bold street art and graffiti patterns found throughout the collection.

- Lastly, apply one coat of Hardwear P.D. Quick Topcoat to create a high-shine finish.
To pair with the feminine, yet edgy and dark undertone of Wes Gordon‘s Spring/Summer 2016 collection, Rita Remark for essie created a gothic ombre nail look that perfectly captured the enviable style of ’90s “good girl gone bad.” The nail design juxtaposes light and dark with wet and dry.

Expert tip: Gel setter gives a 3D wet effect when used.
