It’s that time of year again! Everyone is making a mad dash to the stores to buy holiday gifts. Instead of dealing with the hassle of long lines and overcrowded stores this year, how about making some easy and simple DIY body scrub gifts? Body scrubs are the perfect gift because they not only do a great job of exfoliating the skin, but they also add moisture to it as well. So, this year give the gift of moisture and exfoliation! Not only will your recipients thank you, but your wallet will, too!
DIY Peppermint Body Scrub Recipe
Here’s what you’ll need to make a DIY Peppermint Scented Body Scrub:
– Containers
When giving this body scrub as a gift, your choice of container is important. I recommend the Hermetic Glass Storage Jars ($2.99 – $9.99) from the Container Store; I like the metal clasp that keeps the lid in place and the jar airtight, so the scrub is kept neatly inside.
– White Sugar (Domino Premium Pure Cane Sugar)
– Grapeseed Oil or a Carrier Oil (your choice)
– Peppermint Essential Oil
TIPS: I chose to use grapeseed oil as my carrier oil because it has a very faint smell, and a high absorbency rate. My choice in peppermint oil was not only for its smell, but for its well-known beneficial properties.
Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, rather than in the jar to make it easier to mix and equally distribute the oils into the sugar. Also, I put crushed peppermint candy from Trader Joe’s (the peppermint candy has no artificial flavors or colors) into the mixture to create a more festive look to the body scrub.
Directions
Mix 4 parts sugar with 1-2 parts grapeseed oil. You can add more or less grapeseed oil depending on how moisturizing you want the body scrub to be. Also, remember the key to the ideal mixture is to make sure the oil is always less than the amount of sugar you are using. White sugar has a tendency to dissolve very quickly, so you always want to make sure you have a greater sugar to oil ratio.
After fully mixing the sugar and grapeseed oil together, add 4-6 drops of peppermint oil (depending on your preference of how strong you want the scent of your body scrub to be).
As an optional final touch, I added crushed peppermint candy to the mixture.
Put the mixture into the jar using a spoon or a funnel and add festive decorations.
To bring more variety to your body scrubs, you can always replace the peppermint oil with other essential oils. Some great smelling essential oils are lavender, sweet orange, grapefruit and lemon oil.
I hope you find this DIY body scrub helpful! Happy Holidays!
