The Cat Eye
The cat eye was all over the runway, but the iconic ‘60s looks with feminine classic liner was replaced by sultry, smoky winged-out eyes with pointed tips in blackened jewel tones.
The trick for the perfect outer corner angle is to follow the line of your lashes, drawing a triangle shape and then filling in with color. Use a clean buffing brush over edges to soften harsh lines, ensuring the shade is defined but beautifully blended.
For added trend appeal, try executing this look in the eye color of the season — a beautiful rich red, as seen at Gucci AW13. Whether it’s a burnt cranberry or rustic bordeaux, this look will be a favorite all season long. Product Recommendation: Eye Couture in Jewel of an Eye.
Matte Lips
Matte makeup was everywhere at Fashion Week — from nails, to skin, to hair — but my favorite look is matte on lips. Surprisingly, one of the top colors on the runways was a bright couture red, as seen at Badgley Mischka AW13.
This shade looks incredible in a soft, shine-free finish. To get the look, try a velvet formula, as it offers a flat but non-drying finish and will add richness to lips and make them pop. Also, be sure the outline of the lip is slightly blurred to avoid looking too drawn-on. Product Recommendation: Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Rosey Nude
Flushed Cheeks
Nude faces with flirty flushed cheeks were also a runway favorite with a feminine twist for fall.
Try a bright but translucent pink for a healthy glow (as seen at Sass and Bride AW13), applying blush to the apples of the cheeks and swirling backwards towards the hairline. Product Recommendation: Beautifying Blush in Flushed
Nude Nails
Nude nails are always big on the runways; they are classic and always complement the clothes, but recently they have become exceedingly popular on the streets. This fall will be no different.
When you aren’t rocking your usual deep fall hue, try experimenting with a skintone neutral or gray nude. These nature-inspired pebble tones (as seen at Vera Wang AW13) are understated and delicate with a twist of chic modernity. Product Recommendation: Nail Colour in Nudist
