By this point, Mark Badgley and James Mischka could be known as the godfathers of old Hollywood glam, and this season showed no shortage of their renowned star-worthy gowns. But instead of their usual, classically feminine styles, the duo’s newest collection brought a more brooding and angular take to their red carpet repertoire.
Inspired by Fritz Lang’s German Impressionist film Metropolis, the show featured geometric architecture through structured silhouettes and jagged beading. To offset this sculpted theme, Moroccanoil’s Peter Gray created a floating, ethereally textured look to the hair. The result? Models looked like they had just been struck by lightning, which only added to the overall dystopian feel.
For contrast, Gray created a sleek and glamorous wave shape in front that grounded the springy mass of hair and gave it a sense of refinement.
Here’s how to get the look at home:
— Prep hair with a frizz-fighting cream—especially if you have damaged tresses. Gray used Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, which adds natural definition and boosts essential moisture (and also has the brand’s addictive tropical-nutty scent to boot).
— After thoroughly brushing out hair, curl irregular sections in random directions with pencil-thin curling irons (3/8”, 1/2”, and 5/8” barrels were used at the show).
— Pin each curl through its center, as close to the scalp as possible.
— Mist hairspray around the head to lock in the coils (Gray spritzed the new Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray —a weightless spray with hefty hold that’s residue-free), and then heat-set them for five minutes with a blow dryer and diffuser.
— After unpinning, brush out the curls beginning at the back to help them dramatically swell outwards and upwards.
— Loosely backcomb haphazard sections of hair and spray again with hairspray. Then blast the look once more with a blow dryer and diffuser to hold the shape.
— Finally, to create the undulating wave in front, take three to four sections of hair and wrap them around a 3/4” curling iron, directing them toward the back. After brushing and smoothing out these barrel curls, create the desired shape with fingers while blending it into the heap of fluff and finish yet again with hairspray.

Do you have the guts to try such a defiant, (though, we dare say) delicate look? If so, where would you wear it?
