GIVEAWAY & Review: Dermatologist, Debra Jaliman's New Book "Skin Rules" - Best Drugstore And Prescription Skincare Products

GIVEAWAY & Review: Dermatologist, Debra Jaliman's New Book

Debra Jaliman is a world-renowned New York dermatologist and spokesperson for the American Academy of Dermatology, whose high-profile clients rely on her to keep their skin healthy and looking flawless. Internationally recognized for her research and work in clinical and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Jaliman is always at the forefront of the latest skincare news, clinical updates, and emerging trends. In SKIN RULES (St. Martin’s Press; On-sale March 13, 2012), she distills the best and most important advice she regularly gives to actors, models and newscasters into seventy-seven simple rules that will help anyone navigate the beauty aisles in stores, and ask the right questions when they visit their own dermatologist.

Filled with useful advice on how to attain your best skin ever, SKIN RULES lays out clear, easy-to-understand information on what products are worth spending money on (moisturizers, sunscreens and anti-aging products), and which ones you don’t need to pay a lot for (cleansers).

“I wanted to separate the fact from the fiction in skin care,” Jaliman says, “and make sure that people knew about the many alternatives available.”

Our motto and mission here at BeautyStat.com is that we are “For the beauty obsessed who demand the facts not fiction”, so, we sat down with Dr. Jaliman to ask her some skin care related questions: which products to buy, which are the most effective and much more! Read below to find out:

Q: What are the best skin care products from inexpensive drug store lines?

Dr. Jaliman: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser has ceramides and hyaluronic acid so it prevents the skin from drying out. Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser has glycerin which is also moisturizing — both products are inexpensive — as I don’t believe you should spend a lot on cleansers. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 has soy protein to brighten skin and it’s noncomedogenic.

Q: What are the best prescription moisturizers for very dry skin?

Dr. Jaliman: The prescription moisturizers recreate the barrier of normal skin and help prevent water loss. Mimyx, for example, is fragrance-free and preservative-free, so it is good for very sensitive skin. It has fatty acids that are missing in very dry skin, as well as glycerin and olive oil.

Q: What are the best over-the-counter alternatives for very dry skin?

Dr. Jaliman: Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture Hypoallergenic Lotion is fragrance-free and contains glycerin and petrolatum. It is very moisturizing and mild. It is very inexpensive at $4.49 for 10 ounces.

Practical, concise and extremely accessible, SKIN RULES offers invaluable information for everyone: male and female, young and old, rich and budget conscious.

DEBRA JALIMAN, M.D. has practiced dermatology in New York City for over twenty-five years, and also teaches dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where she is an attending physician. Her own best advertisement for her advice, Jaliman has appeared on a variety of local and national television shows, including Good Morning America and Nightline, to discuss her work. She lives in New York City.
