Ask and you shall receive! BeautyStat’s very own Nicole Gordon Levine doesn’t only have the best-looking nails, but also the best eyebrows we’ve ever seen! You’ve asked us to tell you how she gets her brows looking so good, but, as you’ll soon find out, her perfectly arched brows weren’t always the case. Nicole was a victim of overplucking, until one fateful day she found refuge in a simple, yet life-changing procedure. The article was originally published on the now inactive VainGirlMemoir.com.
The brows have it… permanently! I know they say the eyes are the window to your soul, but I didn’t have any brows to lead anyone there! I was a victim of thin brows in the early 90’s and unfortunately the hair never grew back. I did have a few hairs but they were just randomly placed. I had been thinking about tattooing them for the past five years but had decided that I was a good enough makeup artist to draw them in.
I could not go out on a whim without being looked at… as I literally had no brows. Yes, the Mona Lisa is elegant and beautiful to look at, yet I did not feel either of those two things. I felt uncomfortable. While my kids were playing at an inside gym in Williamsburg, Brooklyn I happened to sit next to a lovely woman who later confessed that she had her eyebrows semi-permanently tattooed. I was shocked! I am a self-proclaimed cosmetic guru and I did not see that her brows were actually inked hairs… like the ultimate of ultimate makeup artists Kevyn Aucoin would create using a pencil or eyeshadow. I was HOOKED from that day on!
Before
I inquired who had done the glam job and quickly called cosmetologist and tattoo expert Sandra Mendez for a consultation — find out more about her at www.sandramendeznyc.com. She was the answer to my self-esteem issue with my face! Upon meeting her, I found out people came to her for eyeliner, lip liner, and other cosmetic ink. I want to do my lips in the next few months using my natural color to make them appear more even. I apologize if I sound too caught up on my appearance, but I do believe in making myself feel better on the inside as well. I donate my time to local charities; I’m active in my children’s school and lives, and also work full-time to bring home the bacon.
Eyebrows really can accentuate your eyes and frame your entire face. It took me a few months to finally get up the nerve to go under the needle, but I figured giving birth to two children was much more painful… and I was right. I am ever so happy I went! I have eyebrows and can now leave the house without feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I am showing before and after photos so you can honestly see that I had no eyebrows! I recommend doing this type of procedure as long as the person is certified/licensed and makes you feel completely comfortable. It does hurt, but the good outweighs the bad by plenty! I feel like a new woman. Cheers to those of you that think a small change can make a big difference in your lives!
