Summer is in full swing! And that means it’s time to get ready for bikini season and the infamous bikini wax that goes with it. We gathered pro tips from Lele Gomes, Esthetician and Celebrity Waxer at the Rita Hazan Salon to help make the process more bearable. Having worked with Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry, she’s an expert we trust in this sensitive subject.
#1: Hit Up The Medicine Cabinet: Take one or two Advil or Tylenol twenty minutes before your appointment to help ease the pain before and during the wax.
#2: Numb The Area: Use a prescription numbing cream before the wax, such as EMLA Cream to help ease the pain during the appointment. For optimal results, place plastic wrap over the cream on the area that is going to be treated and leave it on for 30 minutes prior to the appointment.
#3: Exfoliate: For a full week after the appointment, use an organic loofah everyday to exfoliate the treated area to prevent ingrown hairs.
#4: Avoid The Moisturizer: Contrary to popular belief, using moisturizers before a wax. It is best to keep skin in its natural state, as moisturizers may irritate the area of skin being waxed. Besides using a numbing cream, a clean area is best before getting a wax.
#5: After Care: Following a bikini wax, if redness or irritation occurs, (which is completely normal), apply Neosporin or an antibiotic cream to help alleviate it.
