‘Tis the season for the beautiful holiday palettes to start appearing and Chanel is no exception to this rule. Intrigued by the alchemy of precious metals, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, Peter Philips, debuts a Holiday 2012 Collection: Eclats Du Soir De Chanel, that has bronzes, golds and sparkle at every turn. I have been witnessing over the past year a lot of palettes with gold in them and this is one of the prettiest golds I have seen thus far. I know that rose gold is trending yet these colors are softer, with lots of shimmer and hues of pinks and deep reds.
The gold eyeshadow I am referencing is the Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow ($36.00) in Apparence, which is a gold-bronze color. It’s creamy texture and intense shimmer looked outstanding on my skin. It also comes with a delightfully small and practical applicator brush that can easily fit into any bag or compartment. To me, it was a similar feeling when I first saw the Illamasqua Liquid Metal Palette. It is a color that must be seen in person to appreciate it’s depth!
This season’s eyeshadow palette (not sampled; $65.00) is meant to be a gift, a jewel, the ideal accessory as it is embossed with a quilted effect and the CC monogram. Each powder eyeshadow is reminiscent of the classic Chanel jacket button. The Quadra Eye Shadow (limited edition) in Harmonie Du Soir has the ultimate holiday glamour colors of bronze-gold, taupe, violet-plum and pink.
The Ombre Contraste Duo Eyeshadow Duo ($42.00 in Nuit-Claire (limited edition) is a rosy beige and deep black set. I loved the contrast of these two together and will wear them alone and also layered. There is a shimmer in the rosy beige that is a warm tone, giving the eyes a sparkle of illumination.
For the face are the Joues Contraste Powder Blush ($43.00; pictured above) in Star Dust (limited edition) that once applied gives a sheer shimmer to the cheeks for a festive holiday glow and the Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder ($52.00) in Reverie (limited edition) now comes in a new peach shade that lights the face with an incandescent warmth.
My favorite are always the Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimers ($29.50 each) as Chanel makes my own personal favorite shade in #108. Now, I am in love with these three new colors in Allégorie (limited edition), which is a sheer shimmering pink; Mystery, which is a fresh rosewood and Intrigue, which is a reddish brown. I put Allégorie on right away as it is reminiscent of my favorite Chanel shade — I do love the shimmer in my gloss!
For lips, Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Color ($32.50) introduces L’Impatiente (limited edition), which is a deep, rich red-black.
For nails, Le Vernis Nail Colour ($26.00) in Malice (limited edition) is a deep red-black that as soon as I put it on, it made me feel glamorous. It is richly intense in color and depending on how the light hits it, it seems to have a lot of shine and depth to it.
The holidays will be here before we know it and it was my pleasure to review this festive and glamorous collection. I have a penchant for metallics and the shimmers in this collection made me like it even more. Gold and bronze on my eyes paired with a deep red lip always makes me feel glamorous…and the sparkle in the blush will certainly give off that festive glow!
