Like every other twenty-something Brooklynite in a thrifted grandma sweater and blunt bangs, I count Alexa Chung as a style role model. Alexa Chung is a celebrity beauty icon for the girl that doesn’t like celebrity icons. No over-bronzed skin, no expensive-looking highlights, just undone British cool. I have, within the past 6 months, worn distressed skinny jeans with loafers and a Breton striped shirt, and now I’ve become obsessed with her favorite nail polish.
The collection features 6 shades in different finishes, each one inspired by a fabric. There’s Lace, with matte fire engine red particles in a clear base; Sequin, a full glitz black and gold glitter; Cashmere, a delicate mauve with a pearly, richly textured finish; smooth black, Silk; Camo, with nude matte flecks and green glitter and Leather, a Nails Inc. trademark shade.

The unique Leather polish is the driving force behind Alexa‘s collab. It dries with a gritty texture you won’t find in the average matte polish. She wore the shade to the British Fashion Awards in 2012, and was tapped to be the face of the line after Leather immediately sold out and racked up a 3,000 person wait list.
These polishes are a lazy girl’s dream. Each one has a unique finish, so skipping top coat is not just allowed, but encouraged. And instead of complicated nail art, just add a coat of Lace, Camo, or Sequin to tips or on an accent nail. The edgy Leather and Lace mani below took all of 20-minutes.
Mandie’s Leather and Lace Mani
This Leather and Lace mani is so easy to do. Start with a base coat to prevent staining from the dark polish. Apply 2 coats of Leather and let dry, then apply 2 coats of Lace to 1 or 2 nails on each hand for an accent. Skip top coat — you want the Leather finish to stay matte and textured. Obviously!
