Designer: Chris Benz
Makeup: National Lancome makeup artist Daniel Martin
Hair: DJ Riggs and Nick Irwin for Catwalk by Tigi
The Look: Andy Warhol all-stars
Chris Benz did not fail in delivering his eclectic and edgy signature style for Spring/Summer 2012. The hair, nail and makeup teams succeeded in creating a beauty look that added to the overall collection, which was inspired by the “Andy Warhol all-stars” and the vibrant colors of Coney Island.
Key hairstylists DJ Riggs and Nick Irwin for Catwalk by Tigi created the illusion of a short bob with tousled, frizzy hair. The hair was divided into two sections—the bottom portion was braided into cornrows and pinned to the side as a base for assembling the bob. The top section was curled using small-sized, hot rollers, which were then backcombed and pinned randomly to the nape of the neck, with loose tendrils all around.
“Setting the hair is the most important part of the look,” said Riggs. Dry shampoo was used to make the hair as dirty and gummy as possible. As for the curls, Riggs describes it as “classic hot-rolled hair inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, just when she gets off the beach” to give the curls a frizzy, tousled texture. Catwalk Color Spray was applied to the roots in a white-greyish color for an edgy, “not-so-pretty” effect.
Before moving into makeup, the models received an exclusive skincare treatment by celebrity esthetician Eileen Harcourt for Clarisonic, consisting of a deep cleansing treatment for the eyes and the face using Lancome skincare.
“This cleansing treatment will help make the skin ‘runway-ready,’ by removing all the makeup applied from previous shows,” said Harcourt, as she gently glided the vibrating soft-bristle brush, which is included in the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System, across a model’s forehead. The sonic vibration helps the product penetrate deeply into the skin, increasing the efficacy of the product for optimal results. The Opal Sonic Infusing System with Anti-Aging Serum focused solely on the eye area, giving an “instant botox” effect, as described by Harcourt.
With the clean canvas, National Lancome makeup artist Daniel Martin used a classic red lip and heavy eyeliner accented with green and rose washes of color on the lid. Teint Miracle foundation and Translucence gave a matte canvas, a tangerine blush was brushed along the cheekbone to frame the face. Liner Design in Black Fishnets rimmed the top and bottom eyelids, and the Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Vert Tendresse (launching Spring 2012) made the eyes pop even further. Rouge in Love Lipstick in Sequence of Love (launching February 2012) completed the look, which was precisely applied within the natural lip line to form a perfect pout.
Key manicurist Anna Maria Gheorghiu used the Lancome Mini Le Vernis in Green Almond and Rose Macaron (launching Spring 2012) was applied on both hands and feet. The muted green and pink colors were a subtle accent to the colorful collection.
